Tell us about Black Finn!

Black Finn is a bespoke planning and styling service individually tailored to each of our couples.

Our style is understated elegance and every vendor and styling element is chosen with intention.

With 15 years experience in the wedding industry we have an intimate knowledge of the many moving parts that go into a wedding and close relationships with all of the vendors involved.

What would you like couples to know about you?

We will become your trusted friend, your confidant, your sound board and all round cheerleader. We are dedicated to making your dream wedding a reality and having fun along the way, which is how planning a wedding should be!

Where are you based?

I am based in Melbourne, Australia but also travel interstate or internationally.

Do you travel for weddings?

Absolutely. Travel has always been a huge passion of mine so combining two of my favourite things - work and weddings - is a dream come true! I recently planned and styled my first international wedding in a town called Bouffemont, which is a 40 minute drive from Paris. My next bucket list destinations are Italy and Mexico.

How would you describe your style?

We don’t follow trends and draw a lot of inspiration for the day from both the venue and couple. Our weddings are irresistibly timeless and sophisticated, showing restraint and an understated elegance that will stand the test of time. We believe in a ‘less is more’ approach, allowing a few key styling elements to have their shining moment.

What is your most memorable career moment?

Standing on a chateau balcony in France looking over the most picturesque view, while 100 guests enjoyed dinner under the stars. Knowing that I was able to execute all aspects of this wedding from the other side of the world was a huge highlight in my career.

What inspires you?

Anything and everything. Textures, art, landscapes – just everyday life really. Travel is definitely the most inspiring though. Getting out of your culture and comfort zone can really stir up those creative juices!

What motivates you to do what you do?

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing our couples having the best day of their lives, surrounded by all of their favourite people. We understand what a privilege it is to be a part of someone’s wedding day and don’t take that lightly.

How would you describe your working style?

My couples always describe me as having a calm and supportive nature. I love to collaborate with and guide my couples through the planning process making the journey stress free and enjoyable.

Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?

I have a few different packages for clients to use as a guide however, I provide custom quotes for every couple as they all have very different requirements and work on different budgets. Couples can also choose individual services such as styling or on the day coordination in order to curate a package that is the best fit for them.

What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?

Styling for intimate weddings. There is something particularly special about hosting an event where you are really able to spoil your guests and go ‘all out’ in customising every little detail. Having an intimate celebration adds a whole extra level of love to the room!

Where would you love to travel to for work?

I have always dreamed of planning and styling a wedding in Italy. The landscape, range of venues and beautiful scenery is unparalleled. I think I have exhausted all of the Italian-inspired venues in Victoria, so Italy must be the next stop!

Who is your dream client?

Someone who has a pretty clear vision of what they want however, is open to pushing boundaries and trusting the collaborative process, and bouncing ideas off each other to create something beautifully unique.

What is your advice to couples getting married?

Trust your vendors and let yourself be guided through the planning process so you can actually enjoy it!

Pick the three most important elements of your day and spend your money there rather than trying to do it all. For most couples the planning process will need to involve some compromise or scaling back.

During the evening of your wedding take a moment to step away with your partner so you can take everything in and appreciate how amazing it is that all of your loved ones from all walks of life are there to celebrate your love!It goes way too quickly!
