Our Story

The Anti-Bride is an online magazine and your destination for contemporary weddings.

We showcase selected modern designers, photographers, wedding planners and industry vendors, as well as style focused inspiration to an international audience. Our focus is on quality and authentic connections with our talented wedding vendors and our community.

Founded by Shelly Nikles in 2018, The Anti-Bride was created after Shelly got engaged and couldn't see herself represented in any wedding publications at the time. While there was a market for the traditional, alternative and even the cheesy, Shelly felt that there was a need to highlight and celebrate those couples that didn't fit any of those styles, when it came to their own wedding day.

Being multilingual and having lived in Switzerland, Italy, the US and Australia by the time she was a young adult, Shelly has always embraced an international perspective. With her strong creative vision and background in design, Shelly immersed herself completely into the modern wedding world in the early years, which included travelling to NYBFW to assist a successful Australian designer, working at a bridal boutique, organising and styling multiple bridal fashion shoots and styling shoots for other fashion and wedding publications, and getting to know and make meaningful connections with the wonderful wedding community internationally.

The Anti-Bride is now made up of a growing, locally based editorial team. We have connected with many international couples celebrating their love on their own terms - and the talented and professional vendors who support couples in doing things their own way.
