Tell us a little about yourselves!
We are two Lucys' who met in 2019, survived a few COVID lockdowns, and have moved more than we’d like to admit. After spending years working in the desert in Central Australia, we moved ourselves and our desert dog, Lottie, back south to Naarm, Melbourne. After 6 years of same-name jokes, we finally decided to bring our worlds together and officially be the Lucys' forever!
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We wanted as many guests as possible to stay on-site so it felt like a big, silly school camp sleepover.
The setting needed to be relaxed but with some bold, bougie touches. Having lived for many years together in Mparntwe, Alice Springs, we also wanted a venue that showcased the beauty, vastness and colours of the Australian bush.
How many guests did you have?
150 guests and (approx) 100 stayed on site in bunks or glamping tents.
Tell us about your outfits.
We wanted bright, fun, and sentimental outfits. Lucy T’s orange dress was originally made for her mum by her grandmother for her auntie’s wedding in the 80s, and we updated it with Claire Home Designs.
Lucy V wore a pink gown with a dramatic bow simply to feel bold, bright and fabulous. Lucy V also handmade our beaded bags, with our florist Jacinta building the bouquets right into them — pieces we’ll treasure and use forever.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
Finding a venue where most guests could stay while keeping the vibe relaxed and casual was key. Having all our favourite people together for multiple days to celebrate, dance, and chill was at the heart of it. We wanted the day to be playful and interactive without forcing anyone, so we held a raffle with prizes to sign the marriage certificate, skip the drinks line or blast the confetti cannons during our first dance.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
We wanted the wedding to feel like us from start to finish. Lucy V made our bags, Jacinta built the bouquets into them, and Lucy T designed and created our stained-glass welcome sign with some help from Eloise (Fools Glass) for the finishing touches.
Colour was another important part; from guests in colourful cocktail attire to our bright dresses which matched the florals - we wanted the joy and fun to ooze throughout the celebration! We also wanted everyone to feel involved, so there were little ways for guests to join in and add their own sparkle. We were lucky to have lots of talented and keen friends and family contribute to the weekend.
Any tips for couples getting married?
Rewrite the script and make choices that feel authentically you! Ditch the white if it doesn’t feel right, add those bougie touches (freshly shucked oysters, anyone?) that make it memorable, and hire someone to coordinate the day so no one is stuck with logistics.
Caitlin from Paradise Hunter was our saviour on the day and sorted out all our logistical tangles with ease. Choose vendors you genuinely vibe with, and decide early on the feeling you want and who you want around you - it will shape the whole celebration and your memories!
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
We had so many spectacular vendors on the day!
Our photographer Jackson Grant is an absolute superstar - he is silly, bloody talented and not afraid of a little bush-bashing! We met him at a friend’s wedding and instantly fell in love with a single shot he captured of us. That photo went on invites, the wedding website, and even inspired our stained-glass design. His style is so distinct and captivating that we couldn’t have a love party without him - he was a non-negotiable.
Our florist Jacinta at Champagne Electric blew us away. She expertly guided us through our endless inspiration pics, embraced our bag bouquet ideas, and nailed the brief. We’ll be talking about those ceremony flowers until we’re old and grey.
Our dear friend, housemate and celebrant Bella at Weddings with Bells shared such a touching, funny and playful ceremony that captured exactly who we are, of which friends continue to remark on how memorable it was!
