Tell us a little about yourselves!
Euan is Scottish but grew up in North London, and Izzy is half English, half Spanish, raised in Southeast London. We first met while studying at the University of Bath, but it wasn't until five years after graduating---at a mutual friend's wedding---that we reconnected and everything clicked.
Thanks to a well‑timed mix of fate and Covid lockdowns, our relationship moved quickly, and after a year together we moved into Peckham, London, which soon became "our place." Euan proposed to Izzy in November 2023 at One Tree Hill in Peckham (of course!), just two weeks before we were due to move to Sydney. Our leaving party conveniently doubled as our engagement celebration!
We've been living in Sydney since December 2023, which meant we planned our entire wedding from the other side of the world... an experience in itself!
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
With Izzy being half Spanish and a total sun‑lover, Spain was the natural front‑runner from the start. We wanted a venue where our wedding party and close family could stay on‑site with us, and somewhere that offered the option of a multi‑day celebration so we could really soak up that rare time with all our favourite people in one place.
Accessibility was also important, with friends and family flying in from around the world---we needed somewhere beautiful but easy for everyone to reach.
We were also dreaming of a venue that felt unique and special, something unlike anything we'd seen before. The moment we found Gran Villa Rosa, a 30 min drive from Barcelona, we knew instantly that it was the one. It just felt right.
How many guests did you have?
120 guests who flew from all over the world, from Sydney, to Dubai to Scotland.
What was your budget?
For a full 3 day event, we aimed to spend around €80k but we ended up going over -- no regrets there, it was worth every penny!
Tell us about your outfits.
Izzy tried on more than 50 dresses---and even briefly considered going full pink---but the Giana dress by Prea James felt perfect as soon as Izzy tried it on. Timeless, effortless, and comfortable, it also offered the option of switching up the straps to create different looks throughout the day. She paired it with the Naia veil from Lola Varma, which was love at first sight.
Naturally, pink had to make an appearance somewhere (the venue is called the Big Pink Villa in Spanish, after all). Izzy completed the look with Gucci Rose Beige slingbacks---the perfect shade of blush---which she hunted down across the globe before finally securing a pair.
Once the party began, Izzy changed into the Ivory Ina dress by Van Der Kooij, ideal for some proper Scottish ceilidh dancing.
Euan, meanwhile, always knew he would wear his family's Mackenzie clan tartan---heatwave or not. He wore a custom-made kilt and jacket from Kinloch Anderson in Edinburgh, paired with an Eton shirt and brogues from Loake, creating a classic and deeply personal look for the day.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
For us, the most important thing was finding a venue that could host our wedding party and close family on‑site and set the scene for an unforgettable multi‑day celebration. We loved the idea of everyone being together in one place and really making the most of the whole weekend.
Because we were planning everything from Australia, ease of organisation was absolutely essential. We needed a venue and suppliers who were responsive, flexible and could help us navigate the distance.
Above all, guest enjoyment was our priority---we wanted everyone to feel relaxed, have fun, and leave with incredible memories.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
We made sure the whole weekend was filled with little nods to our relationship. On night one, guests kicked off dinner with a Craig David shot---the very first drink we shared on our first date. For the wedding breakfast, each table was named after one of our favourite bars from around the world, a fun way to weave in memories from our travels.
With Izzy's Spanish heritage and Euan's Scottish roots, it was really important to us that both cultures were celebrated throughout the weekend. Our celebrant---our close friend Stephen, whose wedding is where we reconnected---conducted the ceremony in both English and Spanish, which made it incredibly special.
Music is a huge part of our lives, so we wanted moments that everyone could join in on. During the ceremony, our guests belted out The Proclaimers' I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles), which completely lifted the room. And we continued our Spanish--Scottish theme with our dinner entrance song: Bamboleo by the Gipsy Kings.
Because our main goal was simply to have an amazing party with our favourite people, flying in a ceilidh rock band from Glasgow was a non‑negotiable---they had everyone on their feet, dancing late into the night!
Any tips for couples getting married?
Nothing will go exactly to plan, but that's ok -- it’s still going to be the best day of your life because you've got each other and your favourite people in a room with you.
We had a storm during our ceremony (with thunder & lightning during our vows!) which was definitely not what we expected having our wedding in Barcelona in July...However, we had to improvise and move the ceremony inside -- but if anything, it made it extra special with everyone gathered inside singing away to The Proclaimers whilst the rain was pouring. We even changed our first dance to Ironic by Alanis Morissette because it was like RAIN ON YOUR WEDDING DAY!
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
Its essential to mention Taylor Kezia, our photographer who was unbelievable throughout the whole weekend. Taylor went above and beyond to organise us and the wedding party & friends to ensure we got the best photos, despite the crazy weather conditions which were getting thrown at us. Taylor provided calm in the chaos and we are over the moon with the timeless photos we got from the weekend.
Bahookie, our ceilidh Scottish band who flew over from Glasgow brought so much energy to the night, getting everyone off their feet. They combine traditional Ceilidh songs with pop songs which means we could also have a sing-along whilst dancing!
