Tell us a little about yourselves!

We’re Grant and Emily, living and working in Los Angeles. We’ve been friends since our teen years, then got together in our early twenties and never looked back. Our relationship is built off of deep friendship and our shared joy of doing most things together. We love film, food, music, clothes, literature, and, most of all each other.

In our seventh year of dating, we got engaged in Lisbon, Portugal. After an eleven month engagement, we decided to merge by keeping things simple: a civil ceremony in Santa Barbara, followed by a private elopement celebration in Mallorca that felt completely like us.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We chose Mallorca because we love being on holiday! We were aligned in the vision for our elopement - a Mediterranean coastline, delicious food, and warm sunshine.

More specifically, we chose Son Bunyola for its setting and the quiet romance of the property. Nestled in the Tramuntana Mountains, the property looks out toward the sea, with vineyards and olive groves unfolding between the two. What enticed us was how little dressing the setting seemed to need. Its beauty felt inherent rather than arranged.

How many guests did you have?

None. Not an easy decision, but ultimately the one that felt most authentic to us for our celebration.

What was your budget?

Around $30K, including our two-week trip. We figured we might as well make the most of it!

Tell us about your outfits.

Emily: I wore a minimalist two-piece corset and low-rise skirt. I have always gravitated toward a ’90s-style silhouette, so when I found this dress on Etsy, I didn’t think too much about whether it was “the one.” The scooped, low-rise waist gave an otherwise simple look a subtle sexiness, while the fabric-covered buttons down the back brought in a classic bridal detail. The entire look was perfect for the Mallorcan heat. Any more fabric and I would’ve simply melted.

I was really inspired by Harris Reed’s approach to bridal styling at London Fashion Week, so I paired the look with a blush pink veil. It added a little playfulness while also complementing Grant’s tan suit and the surrounding landscape. I wore simple slingbacks with a white pointed-toe, and carried a thrifted beaded clutch that was gifted to me by a close friend for my wedding day.

I kept the jewelry simple with my everyday earrings and rings, plus a necklace from Sant Jewelers, a family-heirloom jeweler I happened to find in Barcelona a week before the wedding.

I finished the look with my late grandmother’s vintage Omega watch. That was probably the most meaningful part of the whole look, because the watch was a gift from my grandfather to my grandmother on their wedding day in 1958.

Grant: I wore a tan linen-silk double breasted suit from Todd Snyder. I wanted my look to be simple but unique to my own taste and style. The choice was also informed by the location and climate. Linen-silk felt right for breathability, while the tan picked up on the tones of the landscape and the understated character of the property.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

With commercialism and media having become increasingly intertwined with the wedding industry, we felt that these major milestones can sometimes lose a bit of their magic. So, we really honed in on what it means to celebrate. For us that meant being present in joy, and allowing the day to unfold without overthinking it.

So, we created conditions to stay present. We prioritized a setting that would hold us with its beauty, a schedule that gave us room to breathe, and an openness to the fact that things didn’t have to be perfect but they did have to be true.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

We loved the idea of sophistication without anything feeling too polished or traditional. We were really intentional about surrounding ourselves with people who brought their own perspective to the day. We gravitated toward people with a strong creative point of view who could make things feel unexpected and personal.

Just as important to us was the feeling behind it all. We wanted to avoid anything that felt too precious or overly produced. The goal was for everything to feel effortless, but considered. That extended to our entire team, from our planner and photographer to our glam team and everyone in between.

The moments that mattered most to us were the quieter ones. Exchanging our vows, photographing the first moments as a married couple, and sitting down for good food and wine to celebrate it all. Those moments felt sacred to us, and were made even more memorable by the thoughtful execution of our small but mighty team.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Emily: It was non-negotiable that the day felt completely authentic to us as a couple. We reminded ourselves to let go of the expectation that everything had to be perfect and instead trusted our instincts. Whether it was a funky veil, an offbeat ceremony location, or a specific style of photography, if something resonated with us we went with it. The true magic of the day really was in the details, a collection of our individual tastes that together felt distinctly ours.

Grant: Find a way to make wedding planning feel like a part of your celebration. In the beginning, we found wedding planning a little overwhelming and, at times, stressful. Once we stepped away from what we thought a wedding was supposed to look like and started creating something that felt uniquely ours, everything changed. The planning became more exciting, more personal, and ultimately a lot more fun.

Our best advice is to focus less on meeting expectations and more on creating something meaningful and personal to who you are as a couple.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Our photographer and videographer, Kaleidos Wedding, captured our day in a truly breathtaking way. The final photographs and films were better than we could have imagined.

We first came across her work on Instagram, and after an initial call, it was clear we wanted to work together. We were drawn to her approach to photography, particularly her use of film and Super 8. Her work felt like the perfect balance of editorial and whimsical- and something modern alongside a distinctly vintage sensibility. Throughout the planning process and into the wedding itself, she brought a sense of ease to everything. On the day of the wedding, she was thoughtful and intuitive and made the whole experience feel remarkably natural. She understood our vision and knew exactly how to capture the emotion of the day in a way that felt playful and romantic. Now looking at our photos, she really did capture the day exactly as it felt to us.

Our planner and officiant, Yvonne from Bruiloft op Mallorca, was instrumental to the success of our elopement. She was the perfect person to help us plan and officiate our ceremony. From scouting venues, finding our florist, to coordinating our monthly check-ins, she kept us feeling excited and reassured. Her efficiency, thoughtfulness, and genuine enthusiasm for celebrating with us made the experience all more special.

The entire team at our venue, Son Bunyola Hotel, were absolutely incredible to work with. The beauty of the property was a huge part of why we fell in love with the venue, but the hospitality made our experience unforgettable. Everyone went above and beyond from the moment we arrived, which brought such a personal touch to our stay. We want to highlight Zuzanna from the events team specifically. She was exceptional to work with and truly elevated our entire experience. Her reliability and attention to detail made the entire planning process feel completely effortless.

The Hair and Makeup team, Elia Martine Hair & Make-Up, were pretty much a dream scenario. I didn’t have enough time in Spain for a trial, so I was putting a fair amount of trust in them to get it right. When Elia and David arrived, they were professional, focused, and immediately put me at ease. It wasn’t until we sat and talked, though, that I realized they were also some of the coolest people I’d ever met. I think my hair and makeup took less than an hour, which felt almost impossible. They completely exceeded my expectations. I sent a photo to my sisters, and one of them said, “You look so beautiful, and you look like the real you.” That stayed with me. Looking back, I really do feel like they captured the truest version of myself. It was incredibly special.
