Tell us a little about yourselves!
I’m from Houston and Charlie is from Detroit. While both living in Austin, TX, we met one night at a bar on Rainey Street in 2017. After dating and living in Austin for a few years, we decided to make the move to NYC. We’re going on our 7th year in the city and plan to never leave.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We’ve been residents of Chelsea our entire time in New York (the best) and after planning a full blown wedding in France - we ultimately decided that getting married in NYC felt the most like us. We live down the street from The Hotel Chelsea and it’s one of our favorite places to go for dinner, after work cocktails, and good vibes. Once we decided to move our wedding to the city, it was never a question of anywhere else!
How many guests did you have?
60.
Tell us about your outfits.
We wanted classic and elegant looks for our ceremony - a tuxedo from Armani and a gown from Danielle Frankel. I always knew I wanted a silk long-sleeve dress - the minute I tried on the Simone gown, I knew it was the one! I initially planned to stay in my dress all day and night because I was too sad to part with it. I was browsing online and saw a Taller Marmo dress that took my breath away. I love anything with feathers and I just knew I had to get it for my second look. I wanted to fit the sultry and playful vibes of the hotel and this dress exceeded my expectations. Just get the second dress.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
The themes we focused on when planning our wedding were having fun and having even better food! We also wanted to show off our neighborhood haunts and favorite places to our guests. We opted out of many classic traditions (cake, first dances, wedding parties, etc) as we didn’t want the day to feel like a schedule of to-do’s. We solely wanted to focus on spending time and having fun with the people that we love the most.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
We’ve been going to McSorley’s Old Ale House since before we moved to NYC - there is no better cure than a few light beers and the cheese plate. As we’ve lived here and spent many weekends at the bar, the staff and owners have welcomed us like family. We knew the day we got engaged that we wanted to incorporate McSorley’s on our wedding day. Immediately after the ceremony at city hall, we hopped on a trolley from The New York Trolley Company with our closest friends and family and headed to the bar!
Any tips for couples getting married?
It’s okay to change your plan! Always go with your gut.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
Ally Rabon Photo - After meeting Ally for the first time in October 2024 to shoot our engagement pictures, we knew she was the one. She captured every moment we could have dreamed of (and more) on our wedding day a year later! We had full trust in her to shoot whatever she wanted - our only requirement was lots of film! With a smaller wedding, we knew we wanted someone laid back, who would fit in well with our family and friends. Ally not only exceeded our expectations twice, but has also become a friend to us and we feel so lucky.
Makeup By Lucas - Lucas was recommended by a handful of people around NYC. I knew just from his vibe on Instagram that he was the one. We hit it off immediately during my trial and I felt so calm and even more excited for the big day. When picking each vendor, I wanted to be surrounded by people who felt like old friends, and I can confidently say I did just that.
