Real Wedding | Natasja & William

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Will and I had known each other for about 10 years before we found ourselves kissing in the crowd of a New Years festival! Will is a Structural Engineer and I am studying to be a Clinical Psychologist. We spend most of our time at the beach in Mount Maunganui with our two dogs Paddy and Hazel.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We chose Mount Vernon Villa because the building and grounds required little extra decorating and enabled us to stay onsite with our closest friends for the whole long weekend. We felt like it would allow us to prioritise spending time celebrating with loved ones and enjoy the Easter weekend together.

How many guests did you have?

97.

What was your budget?

We initially budgeted for $50k however, ended up going well over that in the end!

Tell us about your outfits.

Will’s suit was custom Crane Brothers, and his shoes were Common Projects. My dress was made by Liz Mitchell and her gorgeous team. Both Murray and Liz were wonderful to work with and they made us, and the process feel so special. Will’s epic wedding ring was from Guy at Guys Gold who is such a lovely and talented person.

My pre-ceremony suit and reception dress were Maggie Marilyn, which were both so much fun to wear!

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

For us it was really important to create a wedding that reflected us while also creating an amazing experience for our loved ones. We wanted our guests to be comfortable and to really be able to enjoy the day with us without too much stress. We kept the day quite simple and made sure there was lots of time to enjoy each other and those around us.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Staying at the venue and getting ready together with our closest friends was one of the best choices we made. It was also important to us to have live music and a lot of dancing. Also, plenty of food and lots of great local wine!

Any tips for couples getting married?

Get a wedding planner! Or at least someone to coordinate the wedding in the lead up to the day and on the day of. They have so much expertise and knowledge in the area.

Film some of the day, even if it’s just a friend on an old camcorder. The day really does go so fast and it’s wonderful to be able to look back and see how magic it was.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Every vendor we worked with were so knowledgeable and kind, but these were a few that really stood out to us!

Keryn Sweeney, our photographer, made us feel like we had known her for years and for a couple like us (who don’t like posing in pictures) it was key to have someone who made us feel comfortable. We are delighted with the photos and are forever grateful to her for capturing our day so perfectly.

Alesia from Flock Events who did our coordination was the best investment we made in the wedding planning process. Our only regret was not bringing her on sooner! She was literally a lifesaver throughout the process and in the lead up to the day.

Flagship Events, who provided us with our marquee and furniture were professional and wonderful too. They were amazing to work with and made every effort to help us in any way they could. We were so happy with how the tent looked and the quality of the tables and chairs exceeded our expectations.

We are forever grateful to all of them.
