Real Wedding | Apeksha + William

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Will and I met in college and have spent our entire relationship in Washington DC together. Neither of us work in politics though, Will is a clinical scientist and I’m a product designer. We can be total opposites. Will lives life in the moment and I always have every minute planned however, we’ve been able to find the best balance together.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

Less than a year into dating Will, I came across a photo of San Francisco City Hall and fell in love with its Beaux Arts architecture. I just knew if we got married, it would be there. Neither of us have a connection to San Francisco, but it felt right for us and gave us a chance to create an entire wedding weekend around a new city that will always be special to us now.

How many guests did you have?

We had eight friends join us for our elopement, many of whom have known us from the beginning of our relationship.

Tell us about your outfits.

I didn’t know what I was looking for until I found my Suzanne Neville dress. It was elegant, tailored and timeless. Moreover, Will comes from British heritage, so it felt like a beautiful ode to that. My grandmother and mother inspired my accessories. I wore a pearl headband as a reference to the beaded headpiece my mom wore on her wedding day and paired it with a pearl necklace (worn as a bracelet), which I inherited from my grandmother. I didn’t want a veil originally, but it was important to Will, so I opted for a simple cathedral veil from Alexandra Grecco, which ended up pulling my entire look together. Will’s suit was designed and custom made by Alton Lane DC. He included our monogram inside his suit jacket as a special detail. He had many accessories, but cared most about finding the right sunglasses from Tom Ford to wear for the coastal drive after our ceremony.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

It was so important that our day remained intimate and full of meaningful details, which is why we chose to elope. In many ways, our wedding day felt like a series of candid moments.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Will and I are both foodies with a serious sweet tooth, so it was important to incorporate a delicious meal at Spruce Restaurant with an abundance of champagne and all of the dessert from Choux Bakery and Pretty Please Bakeshop. Our guests literally found their seats at our reception via custom mini cakes. Additionally, I just love paper goods and wanted each piece to feel meaningful and incorporate the feeling of our elopement. We worked with Paper Refinfery to design a suite of paper goods from our invitations, welcome boxes and wedding announcements, to tell our story through art and small delicate details.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Trust your vendors and let them live in their talent. You found and connected with your vendors for a reason, so give them the runway to be creative and take risks for you.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Our elopement would not have been possible without all of our vendors, but we’re especially grateful for the following team of women:

Noelle from Silk + Slate Co. , our planner, who made our elopement feel just as valid and important as a large scale wedding. She helped us design the most perfect day filled with all the elements that were important to us.

Keila, our photographer from Abby Jiu, who captured our elopement so artfully and authentically. It was so easy to feel comfortable in front of her camera and we were grateful to have her by our side.

And, Holly from Paper Refinfery, who designed all of our beautiful paper goods. We added on multiple more projects after our initial invitation suite because we loved working with her so much.
