Photographer duo Sara and Carlota from Caleidoscopia are based in Madrid, Spain and travel worldwide for weddings. Caleidoscopia was founded in 2017 and the duo have focused on weddings since then however, both worked as photographers previously. Sara is a journalist who loves to be capturing relevant events whenever she can. Carlota excels at artistic portraiture, trying to capture the beauty in every photograph she takes. The team have a social conscience and dedicate 10% of their earnings to promoting social projects through photography. We recently asked Sara and Carlota to tell us a little bit more about themselves and their photography work.
Tell us about your business!
We are Sara and Carlota and we are photographers who believe that each wedding is unique. We
love to document such an important day for couples and bring out an artistic and elegant touch.
One day we discovered the power of photography and applied it to wedding photography dedicating
10% of all our income to promoting social projects through photography. We wanted our talent to make
changes with the help of conscientious couples who wanted the world to be a fairer place. This is how Caleidoscopia was born, a different way of looking and doing. A transformative project that
turns the traditional model of getting married upside down.
How would you describe your style?
Our work is documentary style. We make an artistic and realistic capture of the day. We do not believe in the typical wedding photographs, in the poses, but in storytelling the real emotions, moments and details that make it special.
While we work we try to be invisible, intercede as little as possible and capture what is really happening.
Our goal is to capture the true essence of couples, so that when they see the photographs they discover moments that they may have missed on their wedding day and time travel reliving every moment and every sensation they lived that day.
What motivates you to do what you do?
We know how lucky we are to get the chance to photograph true love and incredibly happy moments that happen only once. Those good vibes we feel in every wedding are what made us enjoy our work.
In addition, the fact that part of all our budgets goes to promoting social projects makes us feel inspired
and motivated every day. Each job is one more small piece to achieve bigger and more inspiring goals.
What is your favourite product that you offer and why?
We love when couples want their pictures to transcend the screens and pick the album.
As we say, what is a good story without a book to tell it?
We work with handcrafted books made from high quality materials that assure that they can enjoy their
pictures forever.
If you could describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?
Reliable, caring and very easy to work with.
What is your ideal work destination?
As we love traveling, we enjoy every destination. We love having diverse destinations in the same season
as the look and feel of every wedding depends a lot on the place of celebration. Our ideal destination is where the couples enjoy, share their happiness and embrace the local particularities.
What is your favourite travel destination?
Every destination that has a different culture can enrich and become new references for our way of
looking. We are attracted to those places where nature has a lot of presence. To the mountains or the sea. Natural landscapes are a large part of our inspiration, the color of the sand, the textures of the trees, the wild animals... Personally, we love to get lost and feel the light and fresh air.
If you could describe your business in 3 words, what would they be?
Emotions, Elegance, Spontaneity.
Who is your dream client?
Our dream client is a couple that forgets that we are there and just enjoys their moment. But at the same time we like them to appreciate art and photography. We love people with a sense of aesthetic that care about details. It is also very exciting when couples are interested in our social side.
What is your most memorable career moment?
For us, every time a couple thanks us for their wedding photographs is a memorable day. We are delighted when they tell us that they cried of happiness or that they went back to the wedding day thanks to the pictures. This year we had a very important moment when our project "Identidades" that we develop thanks to our couples, was chosen for a grant by a Foundation that recognizes the work of artistic projects with social purposes.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
We always tell our couples that they should enjoy not just the wedding day but all the process of preparing one of the most memorable days of their lives. Also to try to "let it go with the flow" and forget about protocols. Just be themselves! That's the real tip to capture their essence and have the most natural pictures.
What inspires you?
Paintings, cinema, fashion - but also you can get inspired by little things like a light ray in the right
place!
What would you like couples to know about Caleidoscopia?
We like them to know that we are there to accompany them. In the end, we are like two more guests as
we are part of their big day. That's why we try to build relationships, build trust and make the whole
process easy and enjoyable. We want our couples to enjoy themselves, that's our great trick in capturing our client's essence.
