Tell us a little about yourselves!

Gabe and I met at the rooftop of the 1 Hotel in Dumbo Brooklyn. We instantly connected. A little after our 7th year anniversary Gabe proposed where we met, he had my cousin secretly film the proposal from afar. We then had a celebratory dinner just the two of us. It was perfect.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

Gabe and I love to travel and be in nature. When we visited Vandelli Botanical Garden (Jardim Botanico da Ajuda), we instantly knew it was where we wanted to exchange our vows and celebrate with all the people we love. Gabe loves history and I love architecture. The grand baroque staircase and all the different species of plants, were so stunning and felt like the perfect place.

How many guests did you have?

100.

What was your budget?

Gabe and I set a budget we felt comfortable with. It was really important to us to stay open and honest with each other when it came to budget. Although we did end up going a bit over we made sure to prioritize what was important to us. Food, flowers and of course the DJ!

Tell us about your outfits.

I wanted to feel elegant, comfortable and like me on our wedding day. Danielle Frankel was the last appointment I had with my mom. When I tried on the ‘Noa’ dress I knew it was the one. I loved the silk wool hand feel and the off-the-shoulder detail. I paired it with a floral veil that fit perfectly with our garden venue.

For Gabe’s tux we went to Todd Snyder and worked with Alex in the made to measure department. The day we went to pick up Gabe’s suit he tried on a pair of Moscot sunglasses with a blue lens. I surprised him with them and he wore them on our wedding day. They added a bit of fun to the overall look!

Gabe and I both wore Prada shoes for our wedding day, it was an unexpected matching moment! Gabe chose a classic brushed leather loafer and I found these white patent leather Prada Mary Janes with a low heel - both were perfect to dance in until 4AM when our reception ended!

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Gabe and I wanted to remain true to ourselves.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Being Jewish it was important for us to incorporate Jewish wedding customers and traditions. We worked closely with our wedding planner and vendors on our chuppah design and it came out exactly as we envisioned it.

Flowers - Thalia grew up around flowers as her dad managed an event company for almost 20 years. It was important for her to have her dad make her bouquet, it was such a special moment.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Be true to yourselves, listen to your gut and remember there are things that are out of your control. Focus on all the love and happiness!

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

We loved all of our vendors and are so grateful to have met and worked with them. We could not have done it without Lisa Hottner at Core Wedding Events, as we had a destination wedding it was the best decision we made to work with her. She understood our vision and connected us with the perfect individuals. It was a dream come true!
