Tell us a little about yourselves!

We have been together for almost 8 years now. We met at the Nomad Hotel (the original one in NYC), where I was working in events and he was a bartender at the time. We instantly hit it off. Kind of just started dating pretty quickly.

We love to travel, go out to dinner and get drinks. We have a very big friend group we love to see and lots of family (mainly Sofia) that we get together with. We sometimes like to run big half marathons together (one and done for Sofia). We love to dance and see DJs whenever we can, whether it’s in Ibiza or in NYC, we are always up for a good time. I got Conor into fashion so whenever we can dress up, we really enjoy it.

Our biggest thing about us both is we are dedicated friends and will always show up. We love social settings and being with people but we really enjoy our time together. Every night is a date night and when we travel, we truly enjoy hanging out and laughing together.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

Honestly, the engagement was a shock to me. There were of course discussions on wanting to get married but absolutely no rush. With being a bit of an age gap of 11 years, I said if it happens (get engaged) by 30 for me and 40 for Conor, then so be it. Little did I know I would be getting engaged by 28 and married at 30.

We (Sofia mainly) wanted a warm summer month. I love to be tan. June seemed like a perfect time in the city before it’s too hot. Plus the type A, OCD factor gave a great date with 6/6/26.

How many guests did you have?

A little over 300 people. Brookklyn Photo captured our day.

What was your budget?

$68k.

Tell us about your outfits.

I (Sofia) had a vision and Conor happily obliged. I worked at Zegna for 2 years and worked heavily in MTM. I had a very specific look for Conor, monochromatic with a cropped tuxedo jacket and wide-leg pant. Wanted it to be an updated tuxedo while still being classic. I chose navy since the original tuxedo was navy and it was perfect for Conor’s coloring and the season. The shoe had to be something unique as well without pulling the eye. The Ferragamos were perfect because of the square toe and block heel. Just the right amount of funk. Then the cuff links were simple gold “Miller High Life” cans because we both absolutely love Miller High Life (they were everywhere throughout the wedding).

Honestly it was a very hard but easy one. I thought I wanted a massive gown with a drop waist that was timeless but very 90s with a veil and all or something like a Danielle Frankel. Ended up going to Amsale because my sister went there and thought to just cross it off the list. Tried on an array of dresses including mine and just absolutely fell in love. Got extremely emotional and just felt it was right. It was so timeless and had so many different elements. The fabric, the train, it just called to me. Then when I was deciding on a veil, my mom said it just didn’t fit me, I agreed and said “like a Parent Trap moment”.

I ended up exploring NYC a little and found the cutest hat shop with the most passionate hat makers. It just tied the timeless look together. Now for the shoes, I needed a pop of color with a height that wasn’t too short. These just worked so beyond well with my color palette and then the florist matched the bouquet without even realizing it. The earrings were from Liz Fox Roseberry who is actually the sister of Daniel Roseberry from Schiaparelli.

The second look was something colorful and fun. Clearly I did not want to stay with traditional. I have been EYING Selezza London for a while and actually was looking at a different style dress but then the new season came out and it was perfect. The color, the disco look, the open back, it was one of my favorite choices.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

DJ/Music—we love to dance but our families are very into music, singing and dancing. We needed everyone on the dance floor. It happened, 4 hours straight even with a Celine Dion “It’s All Coming Back to Me” sing-along.

Food—we did not want anything traditional. We wanted to be at our wedding and just not have a sit-down, not have catered food. Just enjoy easy, fast food we know and love. AKA Taco Bell. Known for eating that multiple times in a month. Having hot dogs and hamburgers because we love the summer and BBQing.

The grazing table was a baby project. Organized chaos. Cheeses picked locally from C. Hesse and Murray’s Cheese. We really wanted local places and local picks. Honey and honeycombs from our local farmers market. I wanted it to look chaotically perfect that you could have whatever you wanted but look stunning. Plus who doesn’t love homemade onion dip. Or who doesn’t want to have a Twinkie or a Pop-Tart for dessert. We wanted it fun and easy. Also to look very cool.

Atmosphere—we wanted it to feel like us. Fun, colorful, dance vibes and just a good time. The color palette and disco balls were very important. Not too many florals but just the perfect amount. Editorial with a classic film feel. Big dance party.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Family and friends were our biggest. Since we had a small intimate ceremony we included elements to bring people together. Conor had his friends at the apartment while he was getting ready. I had my closest friends and all my aunts and girl cousins come early so I could have special dress reveal moments with them. We asked them to come early to take pictures without disrupting our day.

The coloring and elements of the florals and tables were also important. I wanted bud vases and food arrangement with coordinated coloring. Planned and unplanned. I wanted the ceremony to have a focal point without taking away from the park with the linen sheet and industrial clips with the floor floral arrangements. That then was used for the bar and the main focal point for taking portraits. The event space was so cool with the exposed brick, built-in photo studios and the overall Brooklyn warehouse feel. The disco ball installation was very important. The look of the grazing and food tables. Chaotic and organized all in one. An easy flow. Everything was made to feel like us.

Drinks: Miller High Life was very important.

The outfits were of course big. My goal was to have everyone have an immense amount of fun with it. Wear those crazy patterns, bring a boa (which there were multiple), that sequin dress that’s been hanging in your closet. We wanted everyone to just enjoy themselves without worrying about what everyone else was wearing.

The NY factor. We are both from NY, me, Long Island and Conor, Staten Island. Having the food and the pieces of clothing or the vendors being local, just really made it special. Having the ceremony in the park by our apartment, that we visit all the time. Conor getting ready in our UES apartment. Sofia getting ready in the New York Athletic Club hotel. The local bakery, Padoca Bakery, is down the block from us and made the main wedding cake.

Oh, and Carvel, Fudgie the Whale cake was extremely important to Conor, and both our fathers!

Any tips for couples getting married?

Brides: give your phone to your maid of honor or your planner. This is not the time to answer questions. You need to relax and enjoy your day.

Stick together as much as possible. Have time for you both. Try to eat and drink, honestly hide in the bathroom and eat Taco Bell if you need to (we did) just to make sure you can enjoy it as well.

This day is about you two. No one else. Make the choices that you want and you feel good about. IF you’re having a fun time, trust me, your guests will as well. You set the mood.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Claire Picard, she did all the stationery for us. She is the best! She is friends with one of my best friends from college. She did her stationery, and with me having a vision I asked to work with her and it was truly amazing. Claire worked with me on every single detail from our invitations to the cocktail and food signs. She listened to all my notes and is extremely talented. She made a huge factor in what the start of our wedding would look like.
