Tell us a little about yourselves!

We’re two filmmakers based in Brooklyn, New York. Sasha is originally from Portland, Oregon. Timour is half Egyptian, half British; born in Paris and raised in Vienna. Alongside her work in film, Sasha works in jewelry production. Tim works full-time as a producer and director as well as running the creative agency, Highway Child.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We knew we wanted to get married in our happy place, upstate New York, with the ceremony kept small and meaningful, shared only with our immediate families. Inness let us wander the property to find the spot that felt right, and we chose a willow tree that felt timeless and grounding.

For the reception we went big. We loved the idea of bringing everyone to New York, so we wanted to keep the celebration local. Back in the day, long before we knew each other, we both frequented the club, Output. When we found out that Output had since become 74 Wythe, it felt like fate. We knew instantly it was the perfect place for us.

How many guests did you have?

Ceremony: A grand total of four, just our parents, with our best friend Matty marrying us.

Party: Around 250.

What was your budget?

More expensive than a short film, but cheaper than a feature.

Tell us about your outfits.

Timour is quite tall, so finding the right fit was really important. He ended up with a bespoke tailored Bode suit. For the ceremony, Timour wanted to bring in a touch of his Egyptian heritage, so he chose a shirt with a subtle nod to traditional Egyptian style. For the party he wanted to channel a bit of David Lynch with a crisp white button-down and no tie.

For the ceremony, Sasha wanted something simple, elegant, and timeless, so she chose a slip dress from The Row with Manolo Blahnik shoes. For the party, the only traditional detail she cared about was wearing a white dress, and Danielle Frankel felt like the perfect choice. She paired it with Dior shoes in just the right heel height for her.

Since she’s in the jewelry world, Sasha knew she wanted to wear her favorite designers. For the ceremony she chose pieces from Cathy Waterman and for the party a mother-of-pearl and gold sun-and-stars necklace by Judy Geib, all from Twist Online.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

For the ceremony, we wanted to keep things intimate, natural, and minimal, and every choice we made reflected that. More than anything, we wanted our families to feel comfortable, happy, and able to simply enjoy being together.

Most of our energy really went into planning the party. The most important thing with that was creating an experience our guests would never forget, something that felt true to who we are. David Lynch and his work have been a huge inspiration for both of us, and for this party. He once said, “I like to make films because I like to get lost in another world. And film to me is a magical medium that makes you dream… allows you to dream in the dark.” That idea became our guiding light. We wanted our guests to be able to do just that, to dream in the dark. What we created was a Lynchian, multi-sensory fever dream of a party, with shades of the extravagance of old Hollywood.

The party was filled with hidden activities and surprises at every turn. The night began on the roof, watching the sunset over Manhattan. Dinner wasn’t a sit-down; instead, guests mingled around the most intricate grazing table and food stations. All around the room, guests could also spot custom movie posters Timour designed, placing us in every genre of film, little cinematic easter eggs that tied into our love of movies and made the space feel even more us.

We then moved downstairs to the dance floor, where even more unfolded. There was a micro-tattoo artist, a Zoltar booth with movie-inspired fortunes we’d written ourselves, and a separate whisky lounge for those seeking a quieter escape. Between our live band, Reverend Vince Anderson and the Love Choir, and DJ Darling Chuck, performers appeared in shifting costumes throughout the night: from walking eyeballs on stilts, to cigarette girls handing out candy (and weed) cigarettes, to living lamps and wild animals.

As the night went on, guests were treated to late-night nachos, passed sliders, and an ice cream cart from Van Leeuwen. One of the most unforgettable surprises came when Timour teamed up with our musician and singer friends, after weeks of secret rehearsals, to serenade Sasha with their song, “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

It was important to us that the night kept unfolding in magical ways.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Reds and blues, Lynchian velvet, neon noir and surreal sights in the dark.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Do what feels right for you. Stay true to yourselves, because when you look back, you’ll notice if something wasn’t authentic. The best thing you can do is make choices that genuinely reflect who you are.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Our families were beyond supportive and gave us the freedom to make every decision our own, which was such a gift in itself.

From the start, Tara Keleher of Mixed Company was an incredible planner, designer, and executor. She fully understood our (very specific) vision and worked with us every step of the way to bring our dream party to life. Her attention to detail was exceptional, and the thoughtful touches she added tied everything together beautifully.

Chellise & Michael Photography were a dream to work with. We wanted film photographers who could capture the two days in an artistic way, and they delivered beyond our expectations. Not only are the photos perfect, but Mike and Chellise felt like friends, they blended seamlessly into the wedding party and never once felt obtrusive.

For food, we knew we needed something that could feed a crowd without feeling like typical catering. Great food was one of our top priorities, and the moment we tried Pheasant we knew we’d found the right team. Their food tasted amazing and their presentation was beautiful, which elevated everything.

Music was huge for us. Long before we met, we both used to go see Reverend Vince Anderson and the Love Choir at Union Pool on Monday nights. So having Vince at our wedding was like bringing that history full circle. He’s old school, gospel, soul, and pure energy, and he got everyone dancing. After that, Darling Chuck  took over as our DJ. We loved knowing she’d steer clear of tired wedding songs and instead play to our tastes, which she did perfectly.

Gristle Tattoo  came in to do micro-tattooing. We gave them a list of designs and shared our vision, and they created a perfect set. They were so easygoing and also tattooed anything guests wanted. The vibe in their room was so good that people ended up just hanging out in there for hours.
