Tell us a little about yourselves!
We’re two sporty souls who met making music at Basel’s Fasnacht-a wonderfully chaotic UNESCO-listed tradition that somehow managed to orchestrate our love story too.
We feel most at home outside: hiking, skiing, swimming in lakes, getting lost in forests. Nature is where we recharge. But we equally love the beautiful kind of chaos that happens when all your favourite people gather in one place. Good food, loud laughter, live music, spontaneous dance floors-we’ve always believed those are some of life’s greatest pleasures.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Being surrounded by nature was non-negotiable.
We visited plenty of beautiful venues, but many felt a little too polished for us. We wanted somewhere that felt grounded rather than grand-somewhere that reflected who we are instead of what a wedding is “supposed” to look like.
From the very beginning, we imagined the day less as a formal wedding and more as a giant gathering of people who genuinely love each other. We wanted everyone to wander, chat, play games, eat ridiculously good food, drink well, dance too much, and simply enjoy being together.
The second we walked onto the property, we knew. Every corner already felt like part of the story: welcome drinks overlooking the landscape, a ceremony tucked away in the forest, a playful aperitivo on the meadow with lawn games and live music, before everyone made their way into the barn where dinner slowly dissolved into one big dance floor.
How many guests did you have?
80.
What was your budget?
We never worked with a strict budget because we didn’t want every decision to become a financial debate. We preferred giving ourselves the freedom to invest in the things that genuinely mattered to us. After all, you only get this version of the day once.
Tell us about your outfits.
Fashion has always been something we both enjoy, but we each had our own adventure.
Odin was after something timeless with a little personality. Clean tailoring, but with unexpected details that actually felt like him-statement shoes, a silk foulard instead of a bow tie, and just enough individuality without trying too hard.
There was only one tiny complication: he hadn’t actually decided what he was wearing until one week before the wedding. Mild panic may have occurred. Sara ended up helping with the final choice, but somehow the finished look still managed to surprise her completely when she first saw him. It couldn’t have been more him.
Sara had given birth just four months earlier, so getting dressed came with a completely different perspective. She had bought the dress while she was three months pregnant, with no idea how she’d feel wearing it months later. Surprisingly, she felt more at ease than she had expected. Growing a tiny human had shifted her priorities, and things she might once have worried about suddenly felt much less important. Her body had done something extraordinary, and that brought a new sense of confidence. In the end, the dress still reflected her “pre-partum” sporty side while being comfortable enough for her “post-partum” version (and to fully enjoy the food). On top of that, just days before the wedding she added sleeves to it, giving it a softer, more romantic feeling that suited this new version of herself.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
Freedom.
We wanted to enjoy not only the wedding day itself but also the months leading up to it. The venue organised almost everything, which allowed us to spend our energy only on the parts we genuinely cared about - our photographer, the ceremony installation, signage, colours, music and a few personal details. Everything else we happily let go of.
It meant the planning stayed exciting instead of becoming a second full-time job.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Colour. Lots of it.
We wanted the day to feel joyful from the moment guests arrived, so we leaned into bright, bold colours against the natural landscape instead of a muted palette.
One of our favourite decisions was deliberately leaving the evening programme completely open. Rather than planning every minute ourselves, we handed the stage over to our family and friends.
The result was far better than anything we could have organised: wonderfully chaotic games, heartfelt speeches, surprise live performances and, incredibly, a song written just for us. It felt spontaneous, personal and impossible to recreate.
Any tips for couples getting married?
Make the wedding feel like you-not like Pinterest, Instagram or your aunt’s opinion.
Every decision becomes much easier when you simply ask yourselves: Does this actually feel like us?
And if saying “no” isn’t your strongest skill, choose a maid of honour who enjoys doing it on your behalf.
Odin would also like to add one piece of wisdom: maybe don’t leave buying your wedding suit until seven days before the ceremony!
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
Our caterer Brot & Pfeffer completely won us over. The whole experience from the first conversations to the tasting felt incredibly relaxed, yet every single dish that arrived on the day looked and tasted exceptional. It struck that perfect balance between warm, down-to-earth hospitality and genuinely memorable food. People are still talking about the menu.
Our DJ Ruff was another lucky twist of fate. He rarely plays weddings anymore because he’s usually touring, so having him there felt incredibly special. The sound was flawless and somehow he managed to keep every generation on the dance floor without missing a beat.
And then there’s our photographer, Alexia Linn. She has this rare ability to make you completely forget there’s a camera in front of you. Nothing ever felt forced or overly directed. Instead, she creates an atmosphere where you’re simply enjoying yourselves, and somehow that’s when the magic happens. She’s also your biggest hype woman. Between shots you’d hear, “You guys are amazing!” which sounds simple but completely dissolves any awkwardness.
We even did a little pre-wedding session together, which made everything feel so easy by the wedding day. She also has an incredible eye for finding beauty in the most unexpected places-you could stop beside an ordinary field or a random path and she’d somehow turn it into an editorial.
And then she delivered our gallery unbelievably fast. We honestly still don’t know how she did it.
