Tell us a little about yourselves!
We’re both from New York and met during a night out with friends in Brooklyn in 2019. I walked up to Aug and asked, “Why aren’t you dancing?” - We ended up dancing for the rest of the night. It wasn’t until later that night while chatting we realized we’d grown up just one town apart and had somehow never met.
We went on our first real date a week later, and things came together quickly after that, it truly was a “when you know, you know” moment for us. In 2021, we moved to San Francisco looking for a change of pace and haven’t looked back. I work in floral design, and Aug is a carpenter and hobbyist film photographer. We’re both drawn to creative work and things that feel thoughtful and personal.
Aug proposed in September 2023 in Sea Ranch - no big production, just the two of us.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Spending time outdoors has always been a big part of our relationship — most weekends we are out taking long walks, going on the occasional hike, or camping during the summer when we can, so getting married somewhere that felt connected to nature was really important to us.
Lodge at Marconi was the first and only venue we visited, and we knew right away. It sits on 62 acres of preserved land overlooking Tomales Bay and has this quiet, peaceful energy to it, plus some really interesting history. The space felt grounded and serene, with modern interiors that reflected our style.
More than anything, we wanted to share our life on the west coast with our friends and family and to give them a feel for what this chapter has meant to us. We always imagined a small, intimate restaurant wedding, and with Lodge at Marconi, we were able to have both: a place that felt expansive and private, while still centered around a shared meal.
How many guests did you have?
40.
What was your budget?
We had a rough budget going into planning, but we ended up going a bit over. From the start, we knew we wanted to prioritize the things that would feel the most lasting to us —photography
/videography, food and of course, the flowers. I wrote all the floral recipes and conceptualized the overall vision myself, which helped us stay more intentional with spending and made that part of the day feel especially meaningful.
Tell us about your outfits.
The first thing I bought, even before my dress, were my shoes! I wanted something playful that would add a pop of personality no matter what dress I chose, and I ended up with a pair of chartreuse green heels from Sam Edelman that I loved from the start.
I tried on a lot of dresses and visited a few shops across San Francisco, LA, and New York. I had one or two that felt close, but I kept wanting to try on more as I was waiting for that moment of total clarity. I eventually found it in a gown by Alexandra Grecco. It was effortless, comfortable, and felt exactly how I hoped I’d feel when I found the dress. I tried on the silk crepe sample at my appointment but decided to upgrade to pure silk, it moved beautifully and felt so special. The silk scarf was the finishing touch that brought the whole look together.
For Aug, It was really important that he styled his own look. He went with an ivory dinner jacket from Marks & Spencer, black tuxedo pants, and G.H. Bass loafers that had this really cool woven design detail. He went without a tie to keep things easy and true to his personal style.
For accessories, I borrowed a beautiful pair of Lizzie Fortunato earrings from my childhood best friend as my something borrowed, and wore an emerald east-west ring that Aug gifted me the morning of the wedding.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
The most important thing for us was keeping the day true to who we are and not getting caught up in what was traditional or expected. We didn’t want the planning to feel overwhelming (although naturally we had those moments)—we just wanted something that felt like us. Keeping things simple, thoughtful, and personal was really the goal.
We just wanted the day to feel like a reflection of our love and the life we’ve built together.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Since we met dancing, having a fun reception was really important to us. We wanted it to feel like one of those nights where you just stumble into the perfect spot with your friends. To set the mood, we had tinsel wands, some fun sunglasses, and named our signature cocktails after parts of our story—“Why Aren’t You Dancing?” (the first thing I ever said to Aug) and “Let’s Go Elsewhere” (a nod to where we met in Brooklyn).
Film was also a meaningful part of our day since it’s such a big part of Aug’s life. Instead of a traditional unity ceremony, we each took a moment to snap film photos of one another and captured a shot of our guests from our perspective. It was one of the most special and memorable parts of our day.
It was also really important to us to have a private last dance together. After the room had cleared, we stayed behind for one final song, just the two of us. It gave us a quiet moment to take everything in.
Any tips for couples getting married?
Stay present and enjoy it while it’s happening, it all goes by so fast. Don’t stress about doing things the “right” way, there really are no rules. Focus on what feels good to you both, and try not to let other people’s opinions influence your decisions. And if you can, stick to your budget! It’s easy to get caught up in all the things, but the day is just as special without all the extras.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
We loved all of our vendors so much. John from Weiss Photo & Film was super special to us—we’d been following their work for a while, so having him there meant a lot.
Anna Elizabeth, our photographer and friend, is such a talented and grounded person, she captured so many small, beautiful moments that I never would’ve even thought to notice.
Susan from Marion Moss Floral totally nailed my floral vision. Seeing my bouquet for the first time was honestly one of the best moments of my morning.
And our DJ, DJ Neamatode from Heart of Gold Dj’s, had everyone dancing all night with the best mixes and music taste!
