Tell us a little about yourselves!
We met in Verona in 2021. I was studying Italian and Fabio was about to make a big life change and leave Italy for Munich. Somehow with time between Italy, France, Scotland and Germany, we beat the distance and got married on our four-year anniversary!
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We’d looked at several traditional villas and venues around Verona but something just didn’t feel right. We had a week in Italy to attend viewings and make a decision and Phoebe found Ristorante Darì right at the last moment. They were on the Comune’s list of venues where a celebrant could come and perform the official civil ceremony. As soon as we saw the atrium and courtyard, we fell in love. It felt right, it felt more like us.
What was your budget?
We didn’t really have one… not because we could spend an infinite amount, but because it felt too stressful! In the end, we were aiming for about 35k.
Tell us about your outfits.
I wore the Alba dress from WED Studio. It was the first dress I saw, I flew to London to try it on and there was no competition! I knew I wanted pointy silver shoes but they were surprisingly hard to find. In the end I spotted these in an Italian shop called Il Laccio.
Fabio wore a green, wool blend suit from Suit Supply. He wanted to find something special for his tie, something patterned in a complimentary colour and ended up with a brown, camel and gold one from Gucci.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
Maybe efficiency? It’s not the most romantic answer but it’s honest. We had a fairly short amount of time to plan everything and we wanted the process to feel as easy and enjoyable as possible. Once Fabio and I decide on something, we’re all in. We wanted to throw ourselves into creating a really beautiful day, representative of who we are, whilst also cutting out any unnecessary sources of stress. We did things on our terms.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
It was really important for us to include personal touches. Phoebe is a creative and wanted to bring elements of her own practice so she designed all of our stationary, made our vow books, sourced our vendors and really put together the vision for the day. We wanted to feel like the best version of ourselves and that meant bringing our style into every element. As a photographer, the hardest part for Phoebe was choosing someone else to capture the experience but Marta from Surfragette Studio was truly brilliant, she immediately shared our vision and really understood what mattered to us.
Any tips for couples getting married?
Take a step back. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the amount of planning and paperwork but it’s important that you stay sane. Do what you need to do but make sure to put things in perspective and come back to what really matters, why you want to marry each other.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
Amy Trinh and Evan Phillips at WED Studio. Their Alba dress was the very first thing I chose, before my engagement ring even! I had seen it on their Instagram and knew it was for me, it was the only contender. It was a pleasure to meet Amy and Evan at their studio in London to try the dress. Their creativity is something to behold.
We’d like to make a special mention of the entire team at Ristorante Darì. Giuliano and Corinna were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. The space they have built in Verona is a real gem, you can feel their passion from the moment you walk into the restaurant. Our ceremony and reception would not have turned out so beautifully if Corinna and Luca (our florist of Officina Verona) had not come together to create such a magical atmosphere.
