Tell us a little about yourselves!
We met at bar trivia in Brooklyn through Laura’s sister. We were both living in New York at the time but relocated to Los Angeles to be closer to family. We’ve been together now for almost a decade, and our lives mostly revolve around our rescue chihuahuas, Aster and Tansy. Evan is a librarian and lapsed musician and Laura is an ex-art world worker, now AVP at an insurance brokerage/licensed cosmetologist.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We initially were going to get married at the Capri Hotel in Ojai but we lost our house in the Eaton fire and had to change the date and scale of our wedding at the last minute. We chose Loreto because we love the restaurant and wanted to do something that was food-centered and local. We had wanted to have the ceremony and reception outside, so the fact that they have a beautiful courtyard ultimately sold us. They were also great to work with on our new timeline and we were able to find another date that worked for most of our vendors. Our planner Sabrina at Moon Realm really made it all happen with the change of plans — I’m not sure we would have done anything if it weren’t for her willingness to pivot.
How many guests did you have?
We ended up with about 75 guests.
What was your budget?
We went over our initial budget because of the change of plans due to the fire and also just wanting to make everything exactly how we wanted it.
Tell us about your outfits.
I (Laura) spent a lot of time trying to find a dress that I felt was celebratory and that had some special interest to the material. I ended up with this dress because I ultimately loved the pleating.
Evan ordered a custom suit but ended up with an off-the-rack suit post-fire. We both were working on our outfits in the days leading up to the wedding and I would not recommend that!
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
We wanted to have a big party that everyone had fun at but also felt true to us. It was important that we took some traditions and also didn’t feel obligated to take others. We were excited to just be able to host friends and family from all over the country.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
We wanted to have an aura photographer because we have taken so many aura photographs together over the years. It seemed like a nice nod to our relationship and also a fun activity for wedding guests. I love that everyone went home with a picture of their aura from that day.
Any tips for couples getting married?
Try not to feel rushed in any decision but also try to make decisions and stick with them.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
They were all amazing; 10/10!
