Tell us a little about yourselves!

We met nine years ago through mutual friends on a night out in Perth, and it was a classic case of opposites attracting. Michael was working in property while I was at university, studying and working in graphic design and events. He's calm, practical and level-headed, while I'm the creative, slightly chaotic one and somehow, we balance each other perfectly.

Although we met in the city, we're both country kids at heart. I grew up on the crayfishing coast of Western Australia, and Michael was raised on his family's inland farm in New Norcia. In 2024, we welcomed our beautiful daughter, Isabella, and shortly after packed up our city life and moved back to the farm. We love the slower pace of country life and spend our weekends playing sport, chasing after our chaotic toddler and golden retriever, Maverick, and ending the day with a sunset Aperol Spritz in hand.

We wanted our wedding to be a true reflection of us equal parts chic old-money elegance and relaxed country charm, filled with all our favourite food and drinks, and most importantly, one big party celebrating our love with all our favourite people.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We fell in love with Masseria from the moment it opened. Every trip down south, it became a must-visit for us the incredible food, beautiful atmosphere and our favourite wine made it feel so special. We loved that it had an authentic Italian feel right on our doorstep, transporting us straight to Europe without leaving Western Australia. It felt warm, romantic and effortlessly us, so when it came time to choose our wedding venue, there was nowhere else we could imagine celebrating.

How many guests did you have?

We had 100 guests, which felt like the perfect number, not too big, but enough to have all of our favourite people there. We wanted the day to feel intimate, relaxed and like one big celebration surrounded by the people who mean the most to us.

What was your budget?

We worked with a mid-range budget and were incredibly lucky to have my good friend, Brenna, as our stylist and planner. Together, we handmade and designed many of the details ourselves, which allowed us to create our dream wedding while keeping everything within a comfortable budget.

Tell us about your outfits.

For my wedding dress, I wanted it to feel classic, unique and, most importantly, comfortable. Being one of the last of my friends to get married, I really wanted to wear something different while also having the flexibility to create multiple looks throughout the day.

For my second look, we worked with the amazing team at Moira Hughes to create a fun second skirt adorned with pearls and delicate diamonds, the aim was for it to feel playful and fun, perfectly complementing my Jimmy Choo shoes. I didn't want anything too over the top, I love subtle details and the contrast of different fabrics layered together, as they add texture, depth and a sense of effortless elegance to an outfit.

For the bridesmaids, we chose black to complement the old money meets modern aesthetic but still wanted each look to feel individual. We played with different necklines and fabric textures, so each dress had its own character, while still feeling cohesive within the overall styling. We completed their looks with silver accessories and shoes to tie in with the wider wedding aesthetic.

We opted for a sleek up pony as a later decision, which complemented the unique wedding vibe and whimsical styling. As a big ponytail girl in everyday life, I also didn't want to feel too different from myself on the day it felt like the perfect balance of polished yet still very “me.”

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Coming from an events and graphic design background, it was important for me to have a lot of involvement in the creative direction of the wedding, from the vendors we chose to the styling and budget. I wanted the day to feel effortless and for the planning process to be enjoyable and flow naturally.

That's why it felt so special to work alongside my good friend, Brenna. After seeing her beautifully plan her own wedding and with her background in fashion, I asked if she would help style ours. Since then, she has launched her own wedding styling and planning business, Muse Haus, and it truly was a dream collaborating with her.

Together, we hand-crafted so many of the details, including all of the signage, table linens and stationery, which made the day feel even more personal and meaningful. We also made a conscious effort to work with smaller, independent creatives like ourselves, supporting local businesses and emerging talent over some of the larger, more established companies.

We worked so well together that we've since collaborated on a number of other weddings through Muse Haus, and it has been so much fun bringing other couples' visions to life as well.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Absolutely. I really wanted to lean into the romance of the venue and its beautiful rose garden, so we stayed true to the venue's natural colour palette of rich reds and blush roses while incorporating an old-money aesthetic with a modern twist and antique silver accents throughout.

We played on the contrast between vintage and modern chrome elements to bring together an old-money aesthetic with a contemporary, party-inspired feel. We also included a range of fabrics and fringing within the wedding colour palette to add depth, texture, and to make each element really pop.

We also really wanted to incorporate our farm lifestyle into the celebration in a fun, relaxed way. Neither of us are big dancers, so instead of a traditional first dance we did a bridal party line dance to Wagon Wheel, complete with cowboy hats and plenty of laughter. It was such a reflection of us lighthearted, a little unexpected, and so much fun with our favourite people.

As a graphic designer, it was important to me that the stationery felt incredibly personal, so I hand-illustrated our much-loved golden retriever, Maverick, and our daughter Isabella as a little cupid throughout the designs, paired with classic, beautiful fonts. Those small details made the day feel uniquely ours.

More than anything, I wanted the wedding to feel different reflecting the colours, textures and style I love while weaving in personal touches that told our story and celebrated our little family.

Any tips for couples getting married?

We wanted to make the entire process feel fun and true to us. Our biggest tip for couples getting married is to really lean into what feels like you not what you think a wedding “should” look like. Laugh along the way, don't take anything too seriously, and enjoy the process. Don't compare what others are doing or wearing, stick to your gut with your decisions, and don't shape choices around what might make other people happy. When it reflects your personalities as a couple, everything feels more natural, more meaningful, and so much more memorable.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

We honestly loved all of our vendors and couldn't recommend them enough they were all incredible and brought so much care and creativity to the day.

Lull Floral were amazing to work with and went above and beyond, even spray painting fruit and florals in silver to bring our styling vision to life.

Muse Haus (Brenna) was beyond amazing. After all the late nights sewing, planning, and refining every detail together, the level of care and thought she brought into the styling and execution was exceptional it truly felt like a dream working so closely alongside her.

Emma MacAulay (photography) captured the day so beautifully. Her ability to document everything so naturally and authentically meant we can relive every moment exactly as it felt. Together with Leah from

OYD they brought all the fun energy and captured such amazing content that felt so true to us and our day.
