Tell us a little about yourselves!

Tyler and I met in October of 2018, I was his server at a local restaurant. Things moved pretty quickly after that, and we moved in with each other 4 months later. Shortly after we welcomed our son (Iver) in 2021 and our daughter (Emmy) in 2023. December 2021, Tyler got down on one knee in our kitchen and asked me to marry him!

I (Kristina) am a photographer and enjoy documenting our day to day with the film camera I inherited form my Dad. We value the quiet, meaningful moments just as much as the big ones- slow mornings cooking breakfast as a family, cuddling while watching some Disney movie with the kids, walking around the corner to the park with our lab (Bear), and being present with each other.

Fun facts: We got married the same month we met! We were both unknowingly at the same Steve Miller Band concert a town over a few months before we met! Ty is a Leo, I am an Aquarius.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We had been together 7 years, engaged for 4, with two little ones, 2.5 and 4.5 at the time of the wedding. We knew we didn't want a massive event, but something more intimate and meaningful, especially with the kids. We both had talked about having a classy courthouse wedding for a couple of years and decided to just plan the dang thing! We planned it all within 5 months.

Courthouse weddings were such a thing back in the day and I felt like it brought even more vintage feels to the day having it at the courthouse. We really wanted our couples portraits to take place through out the city in Vancouver too so it worked perfectly!

For our reception, we turned Tylers mothers main floor into the cocktail reception of our dreams! We hired a tattoo artist, had hors d'oeuvres, espresso martini's, champagne, balloons scattered everywhere, all the candlesticks! It was everything.

How many guests did you have?

35 people at our courthouse ceremony 70ish people at our cocktail reception.

What was your budget?

Around $10,000.

Tell us about your outfits.

My gown and accessories were vintage inspired! They were made to order from Poland (dress) and Ukraine (gloves and veil), ordered through Etsy! We wanted a classy vibe so we went with a classic black tux and bow tie set for Tyler, rented from Moores.

Our little girl and two nieces each had their own vintage purses, thrifted by yours truly. We paired black leather Mary-Jane shoes and frilly socks with their white bowed dresses. Our son wore a suit identical to Tyler's, to match his Daddy!

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Of course, number one was having our most treasured family and friends around us to celebrate! I was determined to bring our vision to life. I put a lot of effort into thrifting a lot of true vintage pieces, like all the silver plates/trays/crochet pieces, lace cloth hankies for each guest at the ceremony. We also wrote our vows out on two matching hankies with crochet trim.

I wanted it to feel authentic, intimate, classy, but vintage, surrounded by our favourite people. And the photography, of course! We flew Claire in from Saskatchewan to British Columbia! We just knew she would document our day exactly how we visioned it.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Yes! My Dad passed away from cancer when I was 15 and left behind my 3 sisters and I, and his wife (our mother). Tyler's wedding band was once my Dad's wedding band, we specifically got my band to match his:). I also wore my Mom's engagement ring on my opposite hand. It was unbelievably special to have a piece of him there with us.

We were lucky to have my parent's (married 1986) and my Oma and Opa's (married 1963) wedding photo albums laid out around our cocktail reception to view, as well as some old polaroids of Tylers Grandparents wedding. I am one very sentimental person and I wanted to have some of our history shared.

My cousin who I was very close with my entire childhood, sewed us a ring pillow and my wedding garters. It meant so much to us!

Ty and I knew we wanted to get something meaningful from the tattoo artist. We wrote out each others tattoos- "No Matter What", Tylers is in my writing on his arm, and mine is in his writing.

Any tips for couples getting married?

1. You can absolutely have your wedding vision on a budget! 2. Take in the moments on your wedding day-don't worry about the little things, that is what your family is there for! 3. Make your day special to you, incorporate all the meaningful things that are authentic to you. 4. Pinterest and Etsy are your best friend!

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Our officiant that married us is actually my best friends Mom! It was so special to have her to be the one to marry us!

I cannot say enough about the women behind my wedding gown and accessories, they both were so lovely to work with and custom made/delivered everything on a very short timeline. (we got married in October 2025, only 5 months before our date!)

Claire from Doxa Photography was everything and more, her personality, caring nature, and her ability to document a wedding so beautifully is unmatched.
