Tell us a little about yourselves.
Our story started 13 years ago when we each joined our friends’ co-ed soccer team, C U Next Tuesday. We both grew up in Vancouver just a few neighborhoods apart but our paths never really crossed until we were on the turf. Adam drove Kelsey home one night after a game and the rest is history.
We value our relationship and also our individuality. Adam can be found on the golf course or analyzing fantasy football stats, while Kelsey is reading the latest thriller or attempting to master the choreography from Britney Spears’ I’m a Slave 4 U music video (and failing terribly). We both are big fans of lazy Sundays and watching football, specifically the Eagles (Go Birds) or catching up on the latest Real Housewives of Salt Lake City episode – or anything on Bravo, really.
Kelsey’s a Capricorn, Adam’s a Gemini and our world revolves around our dog Boo (a Sagittarius).
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Well, the minute we learned Mount Pleasant Provisions already had hot dogs on the menu it was an easy sell. Everything about the venue spoke to us – it was in our hometown, it had both indoor and outdoor space, it had enough room for all of our guests, the décor was perfectly nostalgic, and they knew how to throw a party. Check, check and check.
How many guests did you have?
We had approximately 150 guests. We have been together for 13 years, so there are a lot of people that we have collected into our community along the way. We wanted to ensure we could celebrate our love with everyone who has been a part of our story.
What was your budget?
Our budget was ‘enough to do it right, not enough to regret it later.’ We focused on saving intentionally over our two-year engagement, avoiding going above our means, and making choices that felt right for our celebration. We were so grateful to be able to take this approach.
Tell us about your outfits.
Kelsey opted for a head-to-toe Cult Gaia look. The brand creates pieces with character, texture, and whimsy, so it just felt right. The hot dog bag from Staud that complimented the outfit was a gift from a few friends of hers and might just be the best wedding gift ever?
Adam went for an intentionally unfussy outfit from Zara (styled with help from Kelsey, of course). Casual and considered – something he could live, move, and groove in.
What was the most important aspect for you in terms of planning your wedding?
The open bar. No, but actually the only thing we wanted was for our guests to have the most amount of fun they’ve ever had at a wedding and for the room to be filled with laughter – and a few surprises.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
We wanted the night to be a reflection of us as individuals as well as us as a couple. We wanted to incorporate silly little moments that would be memorable for everyone (ie. Our faces badly photoshopped on Kelsey’s favorite pop culture moments, or a mini golf course with holes named after Adam’s most frequented municipal golf courses, or bowls of candy everywhere instead of a cake etc.)
We also wanted to incorporate subtle references from our favourite nostalgic movies – from our guestbook pens inspired by Cher’s in Clueless to naming the mini golf course after the final tournament in Happy Gilmore.
Any tips for couples getting married?
It’s easier said than done but do whatever you want on your big day. It’s about you and your love, so always come back to that principle. And get weird with it. Love barbequed hot dogs? Serve them. Don’t look good in white? Wear colour. Don’t know what to give as a gift? Set up a merch table.
The less you care the more you live.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us more about?
Our vendors are the only reason we were able to bring this celebration to life and for most, we previously knew them or found them through our community.
Anonymous Floral aka Brittany Shmyr and Kelsey had previously worked together back in 2010 and have stayed connected ever since. When we started to think about our celebration, we knew there was only one person we could call who would not only support the chaos, but happily enable it: Brit.
Sarah and Trevor at Woven Weddings were our next-door neighbors turned friends. When we needed support with operations/logistics we knew they were the best in the business. They were able to organize the day, and it went off without a single hitch.
We found our content creator Lauren at Your Bridal Era on TikTok – she captured raw footage of the night so effortlessly and we’re so grateful to have these special moments to look back on forever (ie. She captured the moment Kelsey’s best friend Zoey surprised her with Adam-and-Kelsey themed custom nails – complete with our faces, our dog, and even the Eagles logo.)
Mount Pleasant Vintage And Provisions were so accommodating, allowing us to create custom food and bev options. We really didn’t have to do much to the space since it was already so beautiful and bright.
And lastly, Mason X Mata, our photographer could not have been more perfect for our special day. While we had not previously met before our celebration, we instantly clicked – as we were on the way to the venue, we tried to convince her to put the camera down and just join the party. Her and her team captured the energy of the night (and our love) so perfectly. We couldn’t have asked for a better photography partner, we will be cherishing these photos forever.
At the end of the day, community is everything!
