Tell us a little about yourselves!

We're an early thirties couple living in Nashville, TN. Jess's background is in Interior Design and Landen's background is mountaineering and law enforcement. We now co-own a shop in Nashville called Poplar Point where we sell locally made goods, curated vintage, and handmade quilts (made by Jess!). As a couple, we enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, traveling, and hanging out at home with our dog, Mo. As individuals, we both love pursuing our own hobbies as well. Jess loves sewing, knitting, and journaling, and Landen enjoys painting, running, and weight lifting.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

The intent for our wedding weekend was to bring our family and friends through a weekend that was curated by our favorite people and things.

For the welcome party, we had a casual dinner at our favorite local restaurant, 12 South Taproom. The food is good, the staff is absolutely amazing, and they have the best patio.

For the ceremony and reception, Landen's parents hosted us at their home. Our close family and friends got ready all together in the house, and then we all went outside down by their creek bed/bridge for the ceremony. We had dinner out in the outer 40. And then we had the after party at our favorite bar, ML Rose on 8th. We go there a few days a week to hang out with friends, read or knit at the bar, or to work on our laptops.

Also, Landen's sister got married 10/10/15, almost ten years to the day before us in their parent's front yard as well. That was really special for us!

How many guests did you have?

We ended up right at about 100 guests.

Tell us about your outfits.

Landen got his green seersucker suit from Todd Snyder, had it chainstitch embroidered by Kait at Kaitmakes, and tailored at the Men's Warehouse in Green Hills. The same shop that did his prom tuxes and police academy uniform! Jess's dress and cape was Jenny Yoo from A&Be Bridal. She had it altered at Gabby's in Murfreesboro where they made the dress and cape one piece.

For the after party Landen switched into his favorite Carhartt double knees with his Todd Snyder button down from the ceremony and his tried and true Tecovas boots. Jess wore a built-in bra tank from Lululemon, her favorite overalls from Free People, and some crystal Golden Goose sneakers.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Intentional consumption and a sustainable process was important to us. We rented and borrowed where we could. When we splurged we made sure the money went towards local Nashville businesses, and we made sure that the food and floral vendors had a responsible recycling/donation procedure. There is SO much waste in the wedding industry and we wanted to have an amazing weekend without it being to the detriment of our planet and community.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Most of our grandparents have passed away and they were all very special to us.

We tried to incorporate special moments wherever we could fit them so we would feel like they were with us throughout our day. Jess wore her Grammie's jewelry, her bouquet was her favorite flower species from both her Grandma's gardens, and during the ceremony she had a blue and white porcelain pitcher at the altar to hold her flowers that used to be her Nana's.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Take a sharpie to the list of wedding activities and expectations and if it does not serve you two, cross it out.

Jess is 32 and has been living her own life since she was 18, so while she loves her dad, walking down the aisle with her dad didn't feel authentic, so she had her dad and brother walk down the aisle together and she walked alone.

We also refused to feed cake to each other, sleep in separate beds the night before, etc etc.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Our wedding planners, Jessie and Becca, at Modern Vintage Events made sure that our vision(s) of our wedding day came true. We could not have done this without them and they never batted a single eye when we came at them with our crazy ideas.

Our photographer Khaki Bedford and videographer Cantaloupe Films also completely understood the assignment and gelled with our guests so well!
