Tell us a little about yourselves!
We met at a house party in New York, we were both living there for a decade before meeting, I moved there from London and Dan from Paris. We now live together in London, I work as a Creative Producer & Stylist and he works in Sports Technology (opposites attract). We started dating in Covid, so our first dates were spent drinking warm beers in the park. Dan then proposed in that same park 5 years later.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We debated over New York where we met, Paris for Dan, London for me, but eventually settled on London as it is now our home. I loved Brunswick House as I grew up not far away in South London and my mother is an antique dealer, so we knew Lassco and the space well.
I loved the idea of getting married surrounded by beautiful objects and in such a cute tiny Georgian house surrounded by skyscrapers right on the massive Vauxhall roundabout – I thought it would amuse the French and American guests.
How many guests did you have?
20 for the civil ceremony the day before, then 110 for the wedding party - and another 30 after dinner for dancing.
What was your budget?
Loose initially however, the amounts added up extremely quickly. So, we cut corners where we could but made sure the majority was on canapés and drinks, as that seemed to be what most of our friends would appreciate.
Tell us about your outfits.
For the civil ceremony I wore a white silk 90s Shanghai Tang dress I found on eBay with Chanel sling backs and a shell covered bag I found on Vinted.
For the wedding party I started in a Victoria Beckham dress with mad Jimmy Choo sequin heels and finished in an Annies Ibiza white bedazzled mini dress and massive silver platforms also found on eBay (no brand name). I didn’t feel very bridal so wanted to make sure everything I wore felt like me and my normal style – kept banging on about how I will wear them all again “with boots” (yet to happen.)
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
Making sure both our families felt represented and included. Dan is Jewish and I’m Catholic so we made the choice together to have our friend as a non-denominational celebrant. This meant the rest of the wedding needed to feel super personal to both families which we tried to achieve through speeches, choices of food/drinks and styling.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
I wanted to use as many talented friends as possible, rather than suppliers who I didn’t have prior relationships with. My friend Tish trained as a make-up artist and has an incredible bob so she was on makeup/hair, my crazy creative cousin Rose hand drew the place cards, and my friend Ruth has the most incredible voice so she performed my favourite song with my husband’s cousin impromptu on the piano. It all felt like a big night out rather than a formal planned event which was really important to us.
Any tips for couples getting married?
I think we could have checked in more with each other on the actual night – we were so busy running around hugging everyone.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
JamJar flowers were incredible they created a complete springtime fever dream my exact vision of wildflowers bursting out of every corner like the house had been left to ruin and they had taken over.
Also, my photographer Jessica Gwyneth Photography was amazing she conjured up the most creative photos out of what felt just like a giant messy house party – no image is ordinary.
