Tell us a little about yourselves!
We have known each other since 18 (now both 34 years old), first as very good friends and almost lovers but now very much as lovers and best of friends.
We live in Ascot Vale in Melbourne and work within the project management/construction and audit/compliance worlds. Like most millennials, we love to travel (mostly planned around where we can snowboard) and eat very good food!
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We have been going to Mona since our first Dark MOFO festival in 2018 (the year we started dating) and as people who often explore many museums and creative outlets, we have still to this day, have never experienced a museum like Mona before. Aside from Mona, we (in general) fell in love with Tasmania, it’s our favourite place in the Southern Hemisphere.
How many guests did you have?
35 (including us) – family only and no children.
What was your budget?
$60,000 (this also included private weekend transportation for the elderly guests, accommodation for parents and grandparents and wedding guest transportation to and from Mona).
Tell us about your outfits.
I wanted to achieve a striking elegant, sculptural and timeless aesthetic that feels both modern and classic at the same time. It was important for the dress to have a minimal yet dramatic and ethereal but powerful vibe to it. The fresh flowers I had added to my hair gave my overall look this old-Hollywood goddess moment with a modern twist – old and new is something I incorporate in my everyday life. Lastly – I had to pay homage to the punk in me drawing inspiration from Vivienne Westwood’s bridal collection and wearing Betsey Johnson shoes.
Zane wanted an effortlessly classic, refined and old world/European style suit. He sort of gives off 70’s Marlon Brando meets modern European groom energy. Zane wanted a timeless, impeccably tailored old-Hollywood yet modern outfit. When I saw him at the alter for the first time my face lit up and I couldn’t stop looking at him – he’s the most handsome man I will ever know.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
Convenience. We did not want any waiting time between the ceremony and reception, and we wanted to make sure that everyone was able to get around Hobart on the day with ease and comfort. We booked out the entire Mona Roma ferry to take all guests too and from Mona with drinks and canapés on board.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Ceremony: Although we are not very religious people (both however baptised in the Greek & Serbian Orthodox church) it was important to honour the traditions of our Grandparents and ancestors before that, particularly mine as my grandfather walked me down the aisle (this was a very proud moment for him).
Music: We both have specific yet a wide variety in music taste so it was important to include as much as much of this as we could. We curated two main playlists to guide our dj, one for the dinner sitting and another for dancing/party time. We also wanted to include a few specific Greek, Serbian and Spanish songs that celebrated our heritage and family culture, especially as all our guests were strictly family.
Bridal bouquet: I can be very picky and specific when it comes to vision and design so when I saw this beautiful all white bushy, cascading bridal bouquet from a wedding feature in Europe, I was locked in. Lani (The Romantics) nailed my vision – I wish I could have held it for the rest of my life!
Couple presentation: It was important for both Zane and I express our creative, romantic, and intense personalities (intense in very different ways to one another!). We wanted to appear sharp, chic, cool, unique, old school but also modern at the same time. We would not be able to achieve this without the suppliers we used who absolutely nailed our vision.
Food: Under no circumstance was anyone to leave hungry, in fact, I made sure that each guest had an individually boxed up piece of cake wrapped in ribbon to enjoy later in bed or the day after! The Source at Mona outdid themselves with their menu also!
MONA: Our entire wedding was planned around having the reception and photos at MONA – no other venues were even considered. Need I say more!
Any tips for couples getting married?
Try very hard to get into a pragmatic mindset in the lead up to the wedding and try your best not to overly control every minor aspect of the day – some things may not/won’t go as exactly planned and that’s ok, no one will notice. This really helped us to relax and be 100 percent present and in the moment with one another. Eden’s family had never seen a more chillaxed bride (even with the pouring rain all day and night – nothing could get her stressed or down. Zane was just happy to be there.
Finally (and most importantly), this day is about you and the person you are marrying only – so if some family members end up outing themselves as selfish and problematic individuals, they never had your best interests at heart in the first place. Stick to what you want and what feels right for you and don’t look back (leave them and their negativity in the past – don’t bring it into your exciting new chapter in life).
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
I'd like to give a special shout-out to the below individuals that (in my opinion certainly don’t charge enough for the work they put in and create) blew us away with their attention to detail, care, professionalism and accommodation.
Our photographers O Lemonade. Our event planner Shelley Rockely at MONA. Our hairdresser and make-up artists Brooke Marklew & Jacqui Bradfield our patisserie chef Gabby Safarova from Babushka, our florist Lani from The Romantics Florist and finally, Father Andrew.
