Tell us a little about yourselves!
Daniele is originally from Toronto, I (Casey) am from New Jersey, and we have both been living in NYC for over 10 years. We met in 2018 through friends from our separate colleges who were dating and living in Boston. They came to visit for a weekend and got their respective friends in the area together, and the rest is history. I am a therapist and Daniele left his consulting career of almost a decade to become a full time baker about a year ago.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Over the past few years we have been to countless weddings together. They were all lovely but none of them were weddings we could imagine having for ourselves. We knew a lot about what we didn't want and not a lot of what we did, which left us feeling stuck for a while. We had a pretty small list of family members that would be a part of it and a very long list of friends, so we decided to separate out celebrations with both. We wanted an intimate and intentional experience with our family and a big party with our friends. We never wanted a ceremony so we got married at city hall and then had a dinner with our families. A few weeks later we celebrated with our friends at a cocktail bar in Manhattan.
How many guests did you have?
We had 20 family members for that celebration and about 80 friends.
What was your budget?
About 25k for all the celebrations.
Tell us about your outfits.
Daniele wanted a custom suit made and loved the vibe of P. Johnson's style. He had a vision and they brought it to life perfectly. He wore variations of the suit with different shirts for all the events. Casey was looking for outfits that were not super traditional, it was clear instantly that the Reformation outfit was perfect for the city hall ceremony, and she was in love with the Kamperett lace outfit at first sight. We had a lot of fun styling ourselves.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
We did not want the planning to feel stressful, and we were intentional about trying to enjoy the whole process. We wanted to make sure everything we were doing felt aligned and was what we wanted. We had a lot of fun looking for venues and going on dates in Manhattan to go look at them, making our own invites, putting together outfits, dreaming it all up.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Our families have not had a lot of opportunities to meet and get to know each other, so for the celebrations involving them we wanted to be intentional about creating an intimate space where that could happen. We could not have imagined a more perfect place to do it than the library space at Palma. It felt so homey (it is literally someone's home dining room) and the one big table was perfectly conducive to the vibe we were trying to create.
Any tips for couples getting married?
If you are feeling stressed or not excited about planning a wedding - think about if you are really doing what you want to be doing. Sometimes knowing what you don't want is a good place to start. Don't be afraid to break down what you think it needs to be to create something that feels true to both of you.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
We already shouted out Palma - whose carriage house behind the restaurant has incredible spaces for smaller events. The bouquet was made by a close friend of mine and her mother, who run a flower farm. They did an incredible job and it was super special to have that from them. And a very special shoutout to our photographer, Audrey Rae Photography. There was a point when we were not even going to have a photographer, but something told us it was important. We loved her work and from the beginning she was so kind and really listened to who we were and what we wanted, and that was brought to life in her photos in ways we couldn't imagine. We were nervous about the photos because we thought having our photos taken would be super uncomfortable (as it was something we had never done before) but that was never the case - we felt incredibly comfortable from the start of working with her and I think that's clear in the photos. They ended up being one of our favorite things about the whole experience.
