Tell us a little about yourselves!

We’ve known each other for longer than we haven’t. We met in high school at 13, with Lindsay going to the “brother” school to Brenna’s all-girls school, and started dating at 17, almost 13 years ago.

While travelling through Italy, Lindsay proposed in a quiet little cobblestone street in Polignano a Mare, a total movie moment.

We’re best friends, soul mates and complete polar opposites. Brenna loves all things creative, working in fashion with a degree in art and design. Lindsay works in recruitment, spending his days talking to people about their careers, while Brenna talks to people about clothes. She will obsess over colours, textures and styling, and he’ll obsess over LinkedIn, footy and perfecting his golf swing. It’s true when they say opposites attract!

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We got married about a three hour drive south of Perth in Yallingup. We both love the South West coast of WA. It’s such a beautiful, relaxed spot and the perfect little holiday getaway. Since we have a family holiday home down there, it just felt like the ideal place to escape to and celebrate. It turned into a whole weekend of celebrations with our nearest and dearest, which made it extra special.

We’d always imagined an outdoor wedding surrounded by nature - grass underfoot, a canopy of trees, and a lake Lindsay was insisting on. Sundance Lodge had the perfect spot with their dam, making it the ideal backdrop for the day and the perfect place to make those memories.

How many guests did you have?

We had just under 130 guests. We both have big families and lots of friends, so before we booked the venue, our guest list was over 160. Sundance Lodge had a limit of 130, so we had to pull the reins in a bit early on!

Tell us about your outfits.

Brenna: As someone who’s always been drawn to fashion, I wanted my wedding day looks to feel carefully considered. I flew to Brisbane with my mum for my first dress, as there were far more options than in Perth. I’d fallen for so many alternative styles that choosing just one look felt impossible.

After trying on a variety of styles and fabrics, I narrowed it down to two completely different dresses, one by Vivienne Westwood and the other by Australian designer Prea James. Back in Perth, I showed the photos to my nan, who chose her favourite, the Prea James. Having her as the deciding factor made it all the more special. Even better, the dress came with a matching neck scarf, a detail that had been part of my original vision, so it felt like fate.

For my second look, I discovered Amy of Immoral London the “Corset Fairy” on Instagram three months before our wedding, and sent her a DM. The rest was history. Over FaceTime from London, she helped me perfect the design, sending a toile and fabric swatches. I wanted a column style skirt that was easy to dance in and detachable off shoulder sleeves for my corset (which Amy made beautifully, even though I did not end up wearing them). I also envisioned a touch of drama with opera gloves. My gloves were Vivienne Westwood and my shoes were Manolo Blahnik, though I did switch pairs later in the evening.

Lindsay: I wanted something classic for me, and with the tick of approval from Brenna, that was one of the easier decision during the planning process. My tux was custom made by Stitchu, with the cummerbund picked up from a little shop in London Court in Perth’s CBD. My shirt was from Platinum Menswear, where Tony Barlow, the owner, saved the day with a pleated shirt to match my groomsmen. My custom cufflinks were a wedding gift from my wife.

We also asked guests to come in black-tie — tuxedos and floor-length block-colour gowns — which brought a beautifully cohesive look and an effortless sense of timeless elegance to the evening.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Brenna: For me, the most important thing was that everyone had a great time and the day flowed smoothly. I also had a clear aesthetic vision and wanted all the little details to be just right!

Lindsay: The music. The music makes the wedding, and we both wanted everyone on the dancefloor all night long! We can’t recommend Keeley Connolly and Sylvester Banx enough.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Great food and drinks were a top priority for us! We felt so lucky to have Tiller cater our wedding, we had been to another wedding they catered and the food was unforgettable, so it was an easy choice. An oyster shucker during cocktail hour was also a must for us. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a freshly shucked oyster with a Tommy’s Margarita in hand, watching the sun set to the sound of Keeley Connolly’s acoustic music.

Our wedding cake was another really special detail. Pink Orchard Cakes brought all our cake dreams to life, it looked exactly as Brenna had envisioned and tasted even better than we imagined. We chose layers of white chocolate with blueberry lemon and white chocolate with raspberry, all covered in a delicate white chocolate ganache. Liz from Pink Orchard Cakes even went the extra mile to source tiny red flowers from the east coast to bring Brenna’s vision to life, and it was the perfect finishing touch.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Enjoy the process! If you’re anything like us, Brenna’s a bit of a perfectionist and we both have a knack for procrastinating, it can definitely feel overwhelming at times. We didn’t have a planner because Brenna wanted to do everything herself, but looking back, having one would have made the whole experience much smoother and far less stressful.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Yes, without a doubt. Working with our photographer Kath Young was honestly such a dream! From the moment we started planning with her, she was so organised and easy to work with, which made the whole process stress-free. On the day, she kept everything running smoothly and somehow managed to capture all the little moments we didn’t even realise were happening. Kath is incredibly talented, every photo tells a story and really shows the emotion and vibe of the day. But beyond her skill, she was such a joy to have around. Her energy is so calm and positive, which made us and all our guests feel totally comfortable. It honestly felt like having a good friend there, someone who genuinely cared about making sure our memories were perfectly captured. We couldn’t have asked for a better person behind the camera to capture our perfect day.

We didn’t have a videographer, but our content creator Leah from OYD Creative was the ultimate hype girl. Leah and Kath worked so seamlessly together, like the perfect dream team capturing every moment from every angle. Their teamwork made the whole day feel even more special, and honestly, they brought such great vibes!

Our drapery and lighting by An Ode to Styling, and Cape Events were such a pleasure to work with. They handled our very last-minute decisions and changes without missing a beat.

For florals, Gemma from La Myrtle Style House totally got the vision — artsy and romantic. She even let me drop off freshwater pearls at her place the day before the wedding to hang from my bouquet. Talk about last minute!

Katie from The Salty Celebrant, made our ceremony perfect. She was absolutely amazing.

South West Event Studio were fantastic with their advice and so patient with my many emails leading up to the day.

My hair and makeup artists, Cat Mooney from Studio CM and Olivia from Original Artistry, were phenomenal perfectionists who made me and my girls feel so beautiful.

Muse Haus began last year as a creative page where I shared inspiration and styling ideas. Then a mutual friend, after seeing my wedding photos, reached out and asked me to help style and plan her wedding for next year. After that, more people started noticing my work and wanted me to style theirs too. It all happened pretty organically, and Muse Haus has since grown into my creative venture, inspired by the experience of styling my own wedding.
