Tell us a little about yourselves!
We both grew up in Kiel at the sea. We knew each other for years, but fell in love only two years ago in Hamburg where we quickly moved in together. I am working as a Content Creator and Philip as a Data Scientist.
While I am interested in fashion, handicrafts and beautiful things in general, Philip is interested in computers, AI, combat sports and crypto currencies. However, we share the same passion for the sea and water sports and soon can share it with our little baby boy.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We knew that I would be 9 months pregnant at the time. So it was important to us to find a good balance between a relaxed and intimate atmosphere and a proper wedding celebration that we would remember fondly. Hence the wish for a big garden party at my childhood home.
How many guests did you have?
We had around 75 adults and 12 children, which were only our closest friends and family members. It was the best thing to see our loved ones having a great time.
What was your budget?
We didn't really have a budget. We just knew we wanted to provide our guests with good food and drinks and everyone should feel comfortable. As we were celebrating at home, we thought it would be manageable. Turns out, you need a little more than you think, haha.
Tell us about your outfits.
I had two dresses, one for the ceremony at the registry office and one for the ceremony in the garden. Both had to be pregnancy friendly and it was a bit of a challenge to decide on a dress without knowing whether it would still fit by then. Considering style, I like it cool and modern but also light and playful, so the final two dresses were the best of both worlds. The first one was simple and modern and the second one more romantic for the garden. I actually wore the dress backwards, because I liked the neckline better in the back.
Philip chose a classic black suit from Jil Sander with a black singlet instead of a shirt.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
For an outdoor wedding in northern Germany the biggest concern is to keep everyone dry during potential rain showers, so we got a big tent. It turned out to be a great choice since some minutes after the ceremony it was pouring, although just for a short time.
Other than that, we wanted to have control over the different elements like flowers and decoration, drinks and food, which is why we chose to not get a solution from one big event service, but instead looked for everything ourselves. And generally keep our day as personal as possible.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Our matching tattoo, a heart with a flame was kind of the symbol of the day. We integrated it as small details on the napkins and on our invitation cards.
Any tips for couples getting married?
Try to relax. Time flies and it’s over faster than you can blink. It doesn't have to be perfect to be an unforgettable day. Also, get a great photographer so you can relive the event and share pictures with your family and guests, like we did.
Even though the preparation time was a little stressful, I would do it all over again. We had the perfect day for us.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
It was especially great to have found a photographer like Corinna Keiser. I have a certain demand for aesthetics and special photos and with her we didn't have to worry about capturing all our special moments.
