Real Wedding | Mikaela + Josh

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We are Mikaela and Josh! Josh and I live in Los Angeles, California. I’m a fashion model and Josh is a music writer/producer.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We could not agree on a location until my mother-in-law gave me a beautiful coffee table book for Christmas titled 'Paris Chic', with all these incredible photos of Paris. I knew as soon as I opened the book that I wanted to get married in Paris, and Josh agreed.

How many guests did you have?

None – we eloped!

What was your budget?

We didn’t really have a budget, there was a lot of freedom in that. We just knew that if we weren’t going to have a traditional wedding, we didn’t have to be as strict with a budget.

Tell us about your outfits.

We knew it would be more casual than a traditional wedding being an elopement and also being in summer. Josh wanted to wear blue, so we found a gorgeous navy blue Gucci suit that was the perfect medium between modern and classic. We paired it with black Gucci loafers, a white shirt and no tie, to keep that casual vibe.

I wanted a non-traditional wedding look which Wyatt Hough, my close friend, and Senior Design Director at Staud Clothing, was so sweet to design for me. The inspiration for my look actually came from when Wyatt and I went wedding dress shopping and came across a beautiful skirt with a detachable train from the 60’s. It was gorgeous but needed some updates, so Wyatt worked his magic to create my perfect look.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

The most important aspect in planning our wedding was that it felt like it was for us. Having a non-traditional wedding can be intimidating however, what’s best for you and your partner is ultimately the most important.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Since the wedding we wanted was pretty simple, the focus was the vibe. How do we want to feel on our wedding day? We didn't want your typical staged wedding photos, ornate flower arrangements or a giant ceremony. We wanted simple, chic, beautiful, fun and memorable.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Elope! It was the best decision ever!

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

As soon as I landed on Paulina Weddings' Instagram page, I fell in love with her photography. I knew she would be the one to execute our dreamy nostalgic film-like vibe we were going for. The makeup artist, Trine Juel, I found through Paris wedding hashtags and fell in love with her work immediately as well. The makeup artist Trine Juel and photographer Paulina Weddings were the champions of the day. They helped us get our cars, helped with my dress, filmed our ceremony with our iPhone because we didn’t have a videographer. We were so grateful for them; they really made our day go off without a hitch.
