Real Wedding | Lucy + Matt

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We are a tale of two that met through work and sparked a flame at one too many happy hours. We met in St. Louis, Missouri and have moved 5 different times together. We recently made the move from Washington D.C. to Denver, Colorado where we love to ski, snowboard, hike, and fish and finally feel like we found our forever home. We love to travel and eat lots and lots of good food, and of course wine and cocktail.

Our pride and joy is our pup, Poppy- she’s an English cocker spaniel. Matthew is born and raised in a small town in Missouri and Lucy was born in the UK and moved to the states when she was 7. We have very different backgrounds but work so well together.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We love the mountains and fell in love the Vail Village as it reminds us of Europe- where Lucy is from. A destination wedding was something we always anticipated and felt our friends and family would love to escape to the mountains with us- especially in the fall as the leaves changed. We didn’t want something that screamed “mountains” or had that lodge feel, and wanted it more modern and simple- which the Donovan Pavilion allowed us to do with its open concept and large boastful windows.

How many guests did you have?

90

Tell us about your outfits.

I fell in love with my Rime Arodaky wedding dress as soon as I put it on. I wanted something that was classic, timeless, simple, yet made a statement. That was hard to do all in one- and I felt this dress nailed it. The puffy sleeves, low back, elegant fabric with organza details made the statement I longed for but allowed me to be myself.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

The most important aspect was to have a place where we could gather everyone together and celebrate not just one day but the entire weekend. This was important as we had people coming from different states, countries, cities, and we wanted to share these moments with them through the weekend through a welcome party, wedding day, and a recovery day on Saturday saying hellos and goodbyes.

One other important aspect was to ensure we chose the right photographer (and we did, Kelli!). She was someone willing to capture all our moments, different back drops, different styles of photography, and made us feel so comfortable the entire day. They are the person you are spending the most time with through out the day- so to be on the same wavelength is crucial.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Having our own vows. As our ceremony was outdoors and done by one of our good friends, we wanted to incorporate vows that not only meant a lot to us but allowed our guests to see more of us. Matthew stole the show- he wrote vows at the top of Vail Mountain earlier that day and brought everyone to tears.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Don’t stress the small stuff and embrace the compromise. We compromised on our music. Lucy wanting and DJ, Matthew wanting a band. We found Golden Bell Music who could do BOTH. They were a DJ + band trio and it was by far the most fun and best wedding entertainment we had ever experienced.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

The venue- everyone at Donovan Pavilion were wonderful and easy to work with who had everything you need for a turnkey celebration Kelli Christine Photography - her skills, use of light and knack for setting up locations is unmatched. She was by far the best this to happen to us throughout our wedding Golden Bell Music - everyone needs to try a DJ + Band duo/trio. It was so much fun.
