Why did you decide to get married where you did?
We always wanted a destination wedding, in a relaxed yet sophisticated location. We were looking for a place where most people have not been before, and that it would be just as special for our guests to travel there. We both wanted a place in Italy that was not too big and had the perfect Italian charm. Lago Maggiore is also a place Kaja has spent many summers with her German family, and because of this, Villa Frua in Stresa was the perfect location.
How many guests did you have?
We had 80 guests.
Tell us about your outfits.
I have never been a fan of the big, fluffy dresses. There are so many beautiful dresses out there, that look so good on others, but I never identified with these dresses myself. I was looking for something in natural fabric, not too white, a classic gown with an effortless look. One of my bridesmaids knew this about me and took me to Carefully Collected in Drøbak right outside of Oslo. The vibe in the shop was just what I wanted, and the Rosa gown was the second dress I tried. The feeling was amazing. I did feel like a bride, but the most important feeling was that I felt like me in that gown. It represented everything I wanted. From the classic shape and the bohemian vibe, to the cheeky side parts. I went back one more time to try on dresses and I ended up just trying on the Rosa dress and ordering it. I have heard others talk about endless shopping trips and fittings, but for me it was very easy and very clear that this was my dress. I felt comfortable, sexy, classic, and strong and I could not want more for Jonas to see me in it. Jonas went for a classic look and wore a Oscar Jakobsen tuxedo. He went shopping with his groomsmen, and they all ended up with the same look - a black suit and white shirt. The most important thing for me was that his look wouldn't get old and stay sophisticated in the future. It was so amazing to see all the four men standing together with matching tuxedos.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
For us it was important that it reflected us as a couple, and not some idea from Instagram. We took some inspiration, but we are to very down to earth people with a relaxed and minimal style, and it was important that this came to life. For us, the most important elements were the food, the wine and the atmosphere. We love to invite friends to dinner parties at our home, and we wanted that same inviting and open feeling at our wedding. We wanted a relaxed garden wedding, without a rigid time schedule, where everyone felt welcome and had plenty to eat and drink.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
We both have family roots from different countries, so it was important to us to incorporate something from each culture during the day.
Any tips for couples getting married?
Do yourself a favour and hire a wedding planner. We could not ask for anyone better than Valentina from LaLindi Weddings And Events. She made everything so easy for us and made wedding planning a dream. Find a planner that matches your style and location. Valentina is Italian, so it was such a great help, and we liked her style form the other weddings she has planned. Because we had all this help, the days leading up to the wedding were incredibly calm and stress-free. We never felt the stress and frustration of planning a wedding, just the fun and love that goes in to it.
And also, get a good photographer. You will never regret it, and it is money well spent. We can now look back on this amazing day and see the energy and love from all the pictures. Look at photographers Instagram accounts or previous work and see it you like their style. That is why we wanted Nuria and Yhonata from Petit De La Creme.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
For the catering, we used a family friend and her son’s business called Rosso who live locally to Villa Frua. This was also very important for us because I spent summers together with them and know that the food is always excellent. And it was like having someone from the family preparing food for your guests! Elisabetha and Emanuele did not disappoint!
