TILL DEATH is the directorial studio of Melle Branson, specialising in wedding films, documentaries, brand stories, and portraiture work. By limiting bookings to 10 weddings annually, the studio dedicates time and attention to each couple's story. Projects are captured using multiple digital and analogue formats, creating a distinctive, timeless aesthetic that feels both nostalgic and contemporary.
Tell us about your business!
Hello, I’m Melle! I founded TILL DEATH more than a decade ago at a time when the wedding industry - particularly wedding films - were overdue for change. Drawing on my background in advertising and brand storytelling, I set out to create work that felt like actual documentaries, rather than generic, formulaic, or over-stylised productions. It's been really exciting to watch this industry evolve, with so much innovation and personalisation becoming more widely incorporated thanks to platforms like the Anti-Bride championing this shift. TILL DEATH remains committed to my original vision - creating truly bespoke, multi-format films and stills that capture the whole gamut of emotions of a wedding day and become timeless heirlooms for generations to come.
What would you like couples to know about you?
I draw heavily from my childhood memories of watching my parents' VHS tapes and poring over their wedding album - a true canon event that informed the direction of my life as a filmmaker. Every frame I capture is made with this in mind, understanding the significance these films and photographs will gather with time.
Do you travel for weddings?
Absolutely. While I'm based on the stunning coast of Western Australia, my work takes me across Australia and internationally.
How would you describe your style?
It’s really hard to define, because every wedding is so different! My style totally changes and adapts to match each couple, day and celebration. But if I had to articulate my approach: documentary storytelling with a curatorial edge. Years of directing brand campaigns has sharpened my ability to balance observation with direction, and recognise emotional resonance as it unfolds in real-time, resulting in films and photographs that feel both artfully composed and genuinely lived-in. Cinematic, yet honest.
What is your most memorable career moment?
Documenting Sof and Zara’s two-day celebration on a remote Pilbara cattle station on the banks of the mighty Ashburton River. Absolute highlight, for sure. The remoteness, the landscape, the intimacy of a private family event in such a meaningful place, it was an unforgettable experience. But honestly, every single wedding carries that profoundness. Being invited into all different types of families and communities for such a significant milestone day is a privilege that I’ll never take for granted.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by fashion, music and pop culture, and cinema obviously! I consume an overwhelming, almost sickly amount of media lol. But my favourite genres that I always come back to are ones that hold a sense of nostalgia for me - 90s cult classics and hip hop.
How would you describe your working style?
My working style is highly intuitive. Drawing from my background as a documentary filmmaker, I like to immerse myself into the environment and community, and simply follow the action. When I’m filming, the photographers that I choose to work with also play a huge role - ensuring we have a working style that complements each other is crucial. Luckily, some of my closest friends are among the industry's finest photographers, which helps to create a seamless collaboration on the day.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
Both, and then some. I shoot with a wide range of camera formats, each bringing their own flavour of nostalgia. My kit includes Super8, Mini DV, handycam, camcorder, digicam, 35mm film, multiple high spec digital cameras, among others. I don't attach myself to a single medium because different moments call for different approaches - I shoot with what feels right for the scene.
What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?
My Feature Length edits are becoming increasingly central to my work. In our current culture of fast moving content and instant dopamine addictions, my heart is pulling me towards creating long-form films that capture the complete experience of a wedding day - something made to last forever, not just for the moment.
Who is your dream client?
Couples who value discretion and authenticity, who are truly in it for the moment and experience, and who trust that the best documentation comes from being fully present and simply having a good time.
