Tell us about Alanis K Photography!
After working as an engineer for over a decade, I left to travel the world with my five cameras and hundreds of rolls of film. During that time, I realised how deeply I connect with photography, which led me to transition into wedding photography.
Since then, I’ve photographed over 200 weddings and elopements. What began as curiosity has grown into a deep sense of purpose – documenting love, connection, and the fleeting moments that make each story unique.
Where are you based?
I’m based in Sydney, Australia, and available worldwide. I’m often based in Europe during the European summer.
Do you travel for weddings?
Absolutely. Travel has shaped who I am, both personally and creatively. I love documenting weddings in new environments and cultures, and I’m always excited by the opportunity to work in new places.
How would you describe your style?
My approach is centred on capturing in-between moments, fleeting details, and the layered narrative of the day – not just beautiful images. I believe the best photographs happen when people feel safe, present, and truly seen.
I’m drawn to creating images in their raw, unfiltered form – authentic, emotional, and true to how the day actually felt, rather than striving for a perfectly polished result.
What inspires you?
New experiences – whether it’s new people, new location, new décor, I thrive on discovery. Wedding photography constantly places me in new stories and spaces, which keeps me creatively energised.
Diversity – Living in Sydney constantly inspires me. I sometimes think of it as a more laid-back version of New York City. The diversity, music, and food scene fuel my creativity and curiosity.
Imperfect images that tell a perfect story – I’m inspired by images that feel real and honest. The slightly imperfect, emotional frames often carry the strongest memories.
Human connection – I love those little chats with my couples’ families and close friends. Understanding the people behind the couple helps me document their story with more depth and care.
How would you describe your working style?
I’m often described as warm, calm, and highly intuitive to my clients’ energy. I naturally blend into the background, allowing moments to unfold without interruption while staying deeply observant throughout the day.
Building meaningful relationships with my couples is incredibly important to me. I’m invested in understanding who they are individually and together – their personalities, their vision, and what matters most to them. This allows me to tailor my approach and create imagery that truly reflects their story.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
I do both digital and film.
What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?
Film photography and Super 8 filmmaking are very close to my heart. I love the nostalgic quality, the texture, and the element of anticipation when receiving scans back from the lab. There’s something deeply emotional and timeless about analogue formats that feels very aligned with how I see memories.
Where would you love to travel to for work?
I’d love to capture intimate weddings and elopements in Sicily, Guatemala, Morocco, New York City and Ireland. I’m also drawn to remote or hard-to-reach destinations – places that feel intimate and deeply personal.
Who is your dream client?
My dream client is down to earth, prioritising genuine celebration over pretence. They are laid-back & relaxed as a couple with a beautiful sense of styling, and drawn to authenticity and quality experience. They prioritise honesty and simplicity and aren’t interested in putting on a show – they just want to be fully themselves. They trust me creatively and give me the space to interpret their story honestly and artistically.
