Tell us about your business!
Hi, we are Bengi and Oluş, photographers who are a couple living in Istanbul with our two lovely cats.
We have been shooting weddings, still life, fashion, and more for almost ten years. Alongside candid, documentary-style shots on a wedding day, we also love adding an editorial touch to our work. We are especially drawn to the contrast between the warm, nostalgic, and intimate feelings of film photography and the cold, sharp, and editorial look of digital images, since the era we live in is very much a balance between the two.
We also have a digital film team made up of two dear friends, and since Oluş is also a videographer, he manages all the creative pre and post-production process.
What would you like couples to know about you?
We truly love creating. Although both Oluş and I inherited our interest in photography from our fathers, we also enjoy producing creative work in many other fields. Oluş is passionate about music and occasionally works as a radio DJ, while I am interested in prop styling and gastronomy. In short, we love being around beauty in all its forms and deeply admire people who create in every field where beauty exists.
Where are you based?
We were born and raised in Izmir, a city on the Aegean coast in the south of Turkey, but we have been based in Istanbul for the past four years.
How would you describe your style?
To describe our style, we would probably say a little bit of everything. During the day, we pay attention to both editorial and documentary approaches. We really love minimal and romantic photos, so we try to reflect that in both our compositions and editing choices.
What inspires you?
While we work, inspiration can come to us from many different places, such as a beautiful piece of architecture, hearing one of our favorite songs, or even thinking about angles and light depending on whether the day is cloudy or sunny. But as Oluş and I have agreed, what inspires us the most is the energy between the couple. Over the years we have worked with countless couples, and the energy between each of them has always been unique. Some share a more fun and playful connection, others exchange romantic glances and whispers. Some love each other with the same excitement as if they had just met, even after many years together, while others look at each other with the depth of knowing one another for a lifetime. That is why every wedding feels so different, and since we never know what kind of connection await us, discovering and documenting it is what inspires us the most.
How would you describe your working style?
We would describe our approach as calm and cozy. When the couple is in the flow of the day, we are like a fly on the wall. During those times we observe from a distance and try to document everything in a creative way. When it is time for the couple’s shoot, we make sure it is just the couple and us, because being alone allows us to connect with them more. The shoot usually flows through conversation, which helps the couple feel very relaxed.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
As I mentioned before, we love the sharp contrast between film and digital, so we use both on the wedding day.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
Yes, our proposals are tailored specifically to each client based on the days, hours, and details of the services they want.
How do you select music for your films?
Since Oluş loves everything related to music, he enjoys selecting music for the films. Every week he spends hours listening to new releases or tracks that already exist but he has never heard before. Any music that catches his attention is immediately added to his list. That list contains hundreds of songs, and he carefully searches for pieces that fit the rhythm of specific video footages. And of course, the type of connection between the couple, which I mentioned earlier, also plays a big role in this process!
