Central to Ruthie Martin's work are three core elements: film photography, a documentary style, and an emphasis on relationships. She ensures her couples never feel like they’re stuck in an all-day photoshoot—she aims for her photos to capture the emotion, celebration, and the unique personalities of her clients. Ruthie Martin is based in Texas however, is usually found travelling around the country to capture weddings.
Where are you based?
While I'm based in Texas, I often travel for weddings.
Do you travel for weddings?
Yes! I actually travel more often than not for weddings. I photograph celebrations from coast to coast and am always happy to make the trip—wherever my clients are getting married!
How would you describe your style?
My work is relaxed and focused on capturing memories rather than manufacturing poses. I never want a couple to feel like they’re stuck in an all-day photoshoot—this is your wedding day, and the photos should reflect the emotion, celebration, and your unique personalities.
Honestly, my work can feel quite different from wedding to wedding, and that’s intentional. Every couple is different, and their values, personalities, style, and priorities all influence how I approach documenting their day.
What inspires you?
My heritage and family are a constant source of inspiration in my work. I’m impacted by old photographs—images of my grandparents, snapshots from my childhood, and the timeless feeling of worn prints from a hundred years ago. There’s something so present about the way those moments were captured on film.
I hope my work can stand the test of time in the same way—serving as memories for my couples, just as I now treasure my own grandparents’ wedding photos from fifty years ago.
How would you describe your working style?
No two wedding days are the same, which is why building a strong relationship with my clients ahead of time is so important to me. I want to understand what they value, how they want to spend their day, what kind of experience they hope to have, and even what might be stressing them out. These conversations shape how I approach documenting their wedding—when to gently step in, and when to simply be a quiet observer.
At the core, I hope my working style feels relational, peaceful, and service-oriented. I’m here to support my couples and help create space for them to have the best day possible. My role goes beyond taking photos—it's about being part of the team that helps everything flow naturally.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
I shoot both film and digital. Typically, around 40–60% of a wedding is captured on film, depending on the flow of the day and the light.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
Absolutely! I want every couple I work with to have the best wedding day experience possible, and I’ve found that custom packages are the best way to make that happen. Every wedding is unique, so instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, I offer tailored collections that reflect your specific plans and priorities. :)
Where would you love to travel to for work?
Honestly, anywhere! I’m so grateful for the places this job has taken me. From the West Coast to the East Coast, there are so many beautiful and diverse parts of the country. I love how each landscape uniquely shapes a wedding day, adding a special layer to the couple’s memories.
Who is your dream client?
I best serve laid-back and in-love clients focused on spending their wedding day surrounded by their favorite people. They understand that the day goes by quickly—so they want to be present, soak it all in, and remember how it felt.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
Everyone says it, but it’s true: the day goes by way too fast. So hug tight, laugh until your stomach hurts, take a big breath, spend those extra ten minutes catching up with the guest you haven’t seen in years, and dance the night away. Be fully present with the people in front of you—this is a once-in-a-lifetime day where all your favorite people are gathered in one place to celebrate your love.
