Austin-based Paige Reistle specialises in capturing weddings with a documentary approach and has a love for whimsical celebrations. She focuses on understanding her clients to provide a tailored and thoughtful photography experience. Paige Reistle uses both 35mm and 120 film formats, in addition to digital photography, to document weddings across Texas and beyond.

What would you like couples to know about you?

I have a relaxed demeanor and a sense of humor that I love to deploy.

The couples that feel aligned with my work are often people that I jive with personality-wise. When a certain rapport is established between us and I can really know you, I’m able to photograph you in a truthful way.

How would you describe your style?

Quirky and playful. As you can probably tell from my photos, I love fun colors and funky shots.

What is your most memorable career moment?

I had the honor of photographing an intimate wedding in Marfa, Texas (my favorite place!!!) where a mariachi first line led us from the courthouse all the way back to the venue. Marfa is pretty much one singular street, so all of the shopkeepers came out to take videos and dance around to the music with us. It was such a beautiful way to involve the community in their celebration!

What inspires you?

I’m consistently inspired by movies! Right now I’m loving Hal Hartley and Whit Stillman. Aside from their aesthetics, I find that these movies expand my sense of self and give me permission to think more creatively. Henry Fool, The Last Days of Disco, Ghost World, and Crumb are some movies that have impacted my work in a meaningful way.

Along with movies, music is something that I’m passionate about. My favorite music is from the 60’s and 70’s, and lately I’ve been really into Lou Reed. My favorite compliments that I received at my own wedding were about my playlist (I’m pretty sure I spent more time putting that together than planning literally any other part of my wedding).

How would you describe your working style?

I like to say that I’m a professional noticer. I’m relaxed and having fun while I work, but I’m also constantly scouting for moments. My wedding day coverage is led with an intuition-first approach. If it makes me feel something, I take a photo.

Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?

All of the above! I shoot 35mm, medium format, and digital. Each format has its own strengths, but I tend to find myself picking up my film cameras first.

Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?

Yes! I find traditional pricing/hourly structures to be overly constraining and I prefer to create packages on an individual basis. Utilizing custom timelines has allowed me to capture more authentic moments by freeing my couples of the stress that a tight photo timeline can cause.

Where would you love to travel to for work?

My husband and I honeymooned in Big Sur and I dream of going back!

I’m also a huge fan of New Orleans, San Francisco, Portland (both of them), and Seattle but am really down to travel anywhere.

Who is your dream client?

My dream client has a creative vision and a goofy sense of humor. They understand that the value of a wedding is having everyone they love in one place.

What is your advice to couples getting married?

Don’t chase a picture perfect wedding at the expense of having fun.
