Lena Ruschke Photo is a European wedding photography studio documenting celebrations across Europe and beyond. Alongside digital photography, Lena Ruschke Photo works with 35mm film and original Super 8, bringing a nostalgic quality to each story. She is particularly drawn to destination and multi-day weddings.
What would you like couples to know about you?
I care just as much about how a wedding feels as how it looks. I want my couples to be completely present with the people they love, rather than feeling as though their wedding day has become a photoshoot.
I bring a calm presence and gentle direction when it is needed, but I also know when to step back and simply observe. My favourite galleries have both: beautifully composed portraits and considered details alongside the imperfect, fleeting moments that could never be planned.
Do you travel for weddings?
Absolutely. Travelling is a huge part of both my work and my life. I photograph weddings throughout Europe and beyond, and I love how every destination brings its own atmosphere to a wedding.
From Italian villas and the shores of Lake Como to celebrations in Provence and the Stockholm Archipelago, discovering a place through the people celebrating there is one of my favourite parts of what I do.
How would you describe your style?
Timeless, editorial and documentary with a sense of effortless elegance.
I am drawn to beautiful light, movement, fashion, architecture and thoughtful details, but equally to everything that happens in between. I want the final gallery to feel elevated without ever losing the emotion, spontaneity and energy of the celebration.
What inspires you?
Travel, architecture, fashion, cinema and the beautiful imperfection of analogue film. But I am probably most inspired by people and places.
A dinner table after everyone has been sitting there for hours, wind catching a veil, champagne being poured, someone crying during a speech or guests disappearing onto the dance floor, those fleeting moments often become my favourite photographs.
How would you describe your working style?
Calm, intuitive and observant. I never want photography to dominate the wedding day.
I give direction when it adds something to an image, particularly with portraits and more editorial moments, but for most of the celebration I work quietly and anticipate what is happening around me. This balance allows my couples to have beautiful, intentional photographs without sacrificing the experience itself.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
Both. Digital photography forms the foundation of my work, complemented by 35mm analogue photography and Super 8 film.
I love mixing formats because each one captures a celebration differently. Analogue film brings an unpredictability, texture and nostalgia that cannot be perfectly recreated digitally, while digital allows me to document the story in all its detail.
What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?
Super 8 film will always have a special place in my heart. I shoot on original analogue cameras and real film stock, meaning every film has its own character and imperfections.
There is something incredibly emotional about seeing a wedding this way. The grain, movement and unpredictability make it feel less like traditional wedding videography and more like rediscovering a memory years later.
Who is your dream client?
Couples with a strong sense of personal style who care more about creating a meaningful experience than following wedding traditions simply because they are expected.
They appreciate beautiful design, fashion, food and places, but also want their celebration to feel relaxed and full of life. Most importantly, they trust me and give themselves the freedom to truly enjoy their wedding.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
Create a wedding that genuinely feels like you and give yourselves enough space in the schedule to actually experience it.
Choose people you trust, invest in the things you truly care about and then let go a little. Some of the most memorable photographs come from things nobody could have planned. Your wedding does not need to be perfect to be incredibly beautiful.
