Tell us about your business!
Kenna Hisky Co. started from a love of photography, something my grandma really inspired in me. She helped me see photos as something you keep, not just something you take.
Over time, that turned into wedding photography because I’ve always been such a people person. I love getting to know what matters to someone, who they love, what they’re nervous about, what they want to remember, and what will make them feel most like themselves.
A lot of my couples come to me because they want to feel seen and understood, not overly posed or pushed through a day that does not feel like them. My job is to pay attention, help them feel comfortable, and photograph the day in a way that feels honest, beautiful, and personal to them.
I shoot both film and digital, and at the core of it all, I want the photos to feel like something real they can hold onto.
What would you like couples to know about you?
I care deeply. Probably more than I can ever fully explain in a short paragraph.
I understand the weight of a wedding day. The fact that these are real memories, real people, real relationships, and pieces of a season that you do not get back in the same way again. I don’t take that lightly.
I just want to preserve the day with care. These are real memories with real people, and I want my couples to have something tangible that feels honest, personal, and true to what the day actually felt like.
Where are you based?
I’m based in Southern California and travel worldwide for weddings. Travel is a big part of what inspires me, and I love when a place becomes part of the feeling of the day. A courthouse, a countryside estate, a family home, a coastal town, a full destination weekend.
I love when the location adds to the feeling of the day, whether it’s deeply meaningful or simply somewhere that feels right for them.
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as honest, artful, and emotionally present. I do take a documentary approach, but I also care a lot about composition, feeling, and making something beautiful without pulling people too far out of the moment.
I’m usually drawn to the parts of the day that feel the most real. Movement, closeness, atmosphere, someone fixing a sleeve, holding a hand, laughing mid-sentence, tearing up before they meant to. The things that might seem small, but end up carrying so much of the feeling.
I shoot both film and digital, so my galleries naturally have a softer, nostalgic quality to them, but I still want everything to feel intentional and modern. Beautiful, but not too perfect. Artful, but still human.
What inspires you?
I feel like inspiration is one of those words that can sound bigger than it needs to. For me, it’s usually just anything that makes me feel something or makes me pay a little more attention.
A hot summer day, being outside, good music, fashion, travel, slow mornings, a beautiful meal, a place that feels new, or a detail that feels really intentional. I love taking things in, so finding inspiration feels pretty simple for me. It’s usually already there, I just have to notice it.
How would you describe your working style?
I want it to feel like you handed the camera to a friend. Someone who knows you, understands what matters, and is paying attention to the right people and moments without needing everything explained.
A lot of my job is reading the room. Knowing when to let things happen without interrupting, and knowing when to step in and help. For family photos, portraits, or anything that needs structure, I’ll guide. For the moments already unfolding, I try to give them space.
My hope is that the day feels easy, comfortable, and not overly directed.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
Both. Film is a huge part of my work, and most of my couples are drawn to a gallery that feels more film-forward.
That said, every wedding is different. I use both film and digital throughout the day, then shape the final gallery around the couple, the atmosphere, and what they are most drawn to.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
Yes. All of my collections are custom because every wedding has a different rhythm, location, guest experience, and set of priorities. I never want a couple to feel like their day is being forced into a package that was not made for them.
Where would you love to travel to for work?
I would love to photograph a countryside or courthouse wedding in England, a celebration along the coast of France, or a full, action-packed wedding weekend somewhere in South America.
I’m always drawn to places with atmosphere, movement, beauty, and a strong sense of life.
Who is your dream client?
My dream clients are people who care deeply about their people. They want their wedding to feel beautiful, but not at the cost of it feeling like them.
They value connection, good food, real laughter, thoughtful details, and the kind of moments that cannot really be recreated. They want to feel seen and understood, and they are willing to let me in a little so I can photograph the day from that place.
I think the best work happens when the relationship feels like more than just photographer and client. When there is trust, comfort, and a real connection, the photos always feel more honest. Those are the couples I feel the most grateful to work with.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
Learn to laugh, and love to laugh.
Life has so many seasons, and not all of them are easy or beautiful or perfectly planned. But if you can laugh with each other, laugh at yourself, and find humor even when things feel a little sideways, I really think you’ll be okay.
