Joshua Woodland is a an editorial wedding photographer based in the UK. His approach to your wedding is relaxed — capturing those real and raw moments between you both and your loved ones, with an editorial and cinematic flare. Couples often tell Joshua Woodland that he made them feel at ease and seemed more like a friend than a wedding vendor on their special day. He creates bespoke packages for wherever your wedding may be in the world.

Tell us about your work!

I have been documenting love stories for a number of years now and I’m truly grateful that I get to call this my job.

Every wedding and every couple is so unique and that’s what makes it so wonderful to be a part of. Whether it’s an intimate elopement in the city, a destination wedding in a dreamy location or an English countryside wedding - I love to be part of them all!

Where are you based?

I am based in Dorset, UK and I have lived in England my whole life. I relocated to the south coast of England a few years ago to be closer to the sea and have a more relaxed life, surrounded by nature.

Do you travel for weddings?

I will travel anywhere for love. I have had the honour and true privilege to travel all across the globe as a wedding photographer and have photographed in some amazing destinations. I create bespoke packages for wherever your wedding may be in the world and all my travel expenses are included as well - so you don’t have to worry about my travel logistics and costs.

How would you describe your style?

I would describe my style as effortlessly editorial with a cinematic, yet natural and timeless feel. With my warmer tones and classic black and white shots, I love every detail and storytelling from your day — whether it be the fashion, the stationary, the flowers and the architecture from your wedding venue — I want to capture it all.

What inspires you?

From a young age, I have always been inspired by the arts. I remember finishing school and watching catwalk shows of fashion designers latest collections and being in awe. Working previously in fashion and vintage shops, I am hugely inspired by fashion, style and aesthetics.

I am a big movie fanatic and find a lot of inspiration from my favourite films and I’m always looking at how a scene has been shot, the composition and how every angle makes you feel.

I am also a big lover of music and there is not a day goes by that I’m not blasting out my favourites songs or listening to new and upcoming artists. I love lyrics and songs that are like poetry.

What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?

My favourite product that I offer is my new magazine styled wedding albums. I think it’s so important that we are printing and displaying our photos to look back and treasure forever. With the rise of social media and how much images we are consuming on a daily basis, it’s great to strip back and print those photos, so they’re not lost forever.

I also understand the importance of aesthetics and think these styled albums can be displayed beautifully around your home. Whether it be presented on a coffee table or on your book case, it looks great!

Do you have custom pacakges according to individual needs?

Definitely. My packages can be altered to all my couples needs. I have my set packages depending on whether couples are eloping in the city and only need a few hours coverage, or if you’re looking to have a destination wedding, I can offer packages ranging from 1 - 3 days, so not a moment is missed.

Who is your dream client?

I love to hear from couples who have the same ethos as me - they value style, aesthetics and artistry. They want more than just a wedding photographer, they want a friend and a guided hand to help them along their wedding journey. I can’t wait to hear from you!

Where would you like to travel for work?

Travel is a real big part of my life and I have a few destinations on my bucket list to capture weddings. Anything from capturing the cherry blossoms in Japan, to a cultured celebration in Morocco or a tropical wedding in Thailand - the list goes on.

What is your advice for couples getting married?

Do it your own way and what fits you both as a couple. Don’t listen to the outside noise and the typical wedding traditions - you don’t have to do them! You don’t want a first dance? That’s okay. You don’t want a family member there who you haven’t seen in years - that’s okay too! Remember that we are there to celebrate your love and people will understand. If you don’t like to be the centre of attention and have all eyes on you, then you can have a more intimate celebration for example. Whatever it takes for you to feel the most relaxed and present on your day.
