Tell us about your business!
Well.. don’t all the bridesmaids look stunning tonight? Names Jackson. A Pilates enthusiast, and more recently, a Guncle. I’ve never attended a wedding as a guest, but boy do I act like one. I’m switched on, and the process is a laugh and a half with me. I can’t believe I’m referencing my Google reviews, but every.. single.. couple, loves it when I get involved (except for when I get them stuck in an elevator for 45 minutes..)
What would you like couples to know about you?
Weddings to me are an endless dance of creating my own stories, whilst still paying attention to yours. You will receive a balancing act of personality-fuelled imagery, and of course, photography with a hands-off approach.
Afterward, I curate a fitting mood in my wedding galleries via a quality over quantity, guest-heavy approach. Unless you’re eloping, you won’t be overwhelmed with a gallery that only highlights two heads. I’m also here to champion the company you keep, your guests. To put it simply, you’re going to receive it all.
Do you travel for weddings?
Living in Melbourne, Australia, but am so chuffed to be a frequent flyer nowadays. In fact, I may already be in your part of the globe?
Car, boat, plane? I'll be there with bells on (maybe sequins). Anywhere interstate or overseas is fine by me darl, just feed us some dinner would you? No dietaries!
How would you describe your style?
The term ‘candid’ and ‘documentary-style’ is plastered everywhere amongst the industry. Big yawn. Sure you can take photos, but you can also ‘make’ photos. I convey the value of deliberately posed portraiture being a breeze by highlighting how fun and quick the experience actually is, whilst still remaining non-invasive during the stand-still moments of a wedding day.
In a nutshell - I choose not to default to the sidelines (otherwise you’d receive a wedding gallery similar to your old high school friends, and we don’t want that do we?)
“We’re not photographing wildlife, we’re photographing a beautiful event, and if you’re going to be photographing that from the outside in, you’re losing.” - Sean Flanigan
What is your most memorable career moment?
So I’ve somehow woken up on Adam Lambert's couch after a wedding in West Hollywood.
What inspires you?
Too much to be honest, it actually gets annoying! Overall though, staying offline, music (particularly electronic sub-genres) whilst cycling. The composure in Lukasz Wierzbowski’s stills. The warped nature of Madeleine Palmer's paintings, the lighting design in Pablo Larrain’s film, Ema.
How would you describe your working style?
I tackle 25 weddings annually to maintain my creative intelligence. It allows me to uphold a heightened sense of care for you both, showcasing your personalities inside the one thing you’re left with. This really pays off. I'm not just going to rock up and see what happens. Think ‘a day in the life of’, but you just so happen to be spotted by 100 mutuals dressed to the nines.
Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?
Both, you cutie. Say hi if you would also like to see my film photography and Super 8mm videos, and understand how I juggle both mediums on the day.
Do you have custom packages according to individual needs?
Yep! The packages are based on how many hours I’m there for, your guest amount, and the quantity of photos you will receive. I’m not here to create some false sense of urgency. Instead, the three of us will walk out of a Google Meet call confidently knowing what package makes sense.
What is your advice to couples getting married?
When holding your flowers, think ‘pubes, not boobs’. Don't rent the pink Hummer. Do you really need the veil? Embrace the triple chins. Let Grandma bring her iPad. Make sure the DJ doesn’t play ‘Valerie’ by Amy Winehouse. Oh and if you’re 'in this for the gram', maybe hit the Back button.
