Tell us about your business!

My name is Rae and I’m a digital and film photographer based in Gold Coast, Australia. My style is a hybrid of editorial and documentary, it’s also super light hearted, fun and incredibly intimate. I’m a sucker for flash photography and candids, so you’ll see a lot of it in my galleries. I love the imperfect and raw nature of candids, there’s just something about capturing people just being people.

What would you like couples to know about you?

I honestly just want to witness an intimate and totally awesome part of your lives! Even outside of photography I’ve been in weddings and events for a very long time. It’s so important that we make time to breathe, socialise and actually be a part of this celebration you’ve spent so long planning. I don’t want to pull you away for massive amounts of time, rather I like to break it up all throughout the day in small moments.

Do you travel for weddings?

Absolutely! I’m based on the Gold Coast, Australia and love travelling between Sydney and Melbourne as well as throughout Europe. But to be honest I’m open to capturing weddings literally anywhere.

How would you describe your style?

A cheeky mix of editorial and candid, I love capturing the vibes and life of the party. I want couples to be able to look back on their photos and hear the music, taste the food and relive the emotions they felt on their special day. My style is quite loose and playful, I allow my couple’s personalities to navigate the way I approach the day so that their gallery reflects them.

What is your most memorable career moment?

Getting booked for my first destination wedding was so surreal. There’s something special about connecting with a couple for a wedding that’s not close to home. Because it’s no longer about picking a photographer just because they’re close and convenient, it’s more about connection and the art behind it.

What inspires you?

Music, fashion and cinema are my biggest inspirations. Both of these media are so close to my heart! Back in school I was a film student and so naively sure I’d be a director or cinematographer. Little did I know that I’d end up being involved in such personal and meaningful events, and it’s so incredibly rewarding. When I’m editing galleries I love to play music that reminds me of the day. A lot of my colour grading and poses are inspired by iconic cinema and fashion.

How would you describe your working style?

My focus is to make my couples feel comfortable. I love connecting with each and every one of my couples as well as creating space for their friends & family to relax and feel comfortable. This allows me to capture the day from a guest’s point of view and get close to the action without feeling invasive. While I am close to the action, I just let it unfold as it happens. When we’re out for portraits I’ll make sure to capture your best angles and help where needed, but otherwise I like to focus on action prompts and creating movement.

What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?

Film without a doubt. It’s the heart of photography and gives you all those beautiful colours that digital tries so hard to chase. It blows my mind every time I see what we created together.

"Digital photography is a science and film photography is a chemical miracle" - Steven Spielberg

Who is your dream client?

It honestly breaks my heart hearing couples say they ‘just want someone to take a few pictures’ or pick a photographer purely based on price. Your photographer is the vendor that’s going to be with you for the longest duration on your wedding day, it’s a big decision and you’ve got to like the person that you’re trusting with such an important task. I want to create with couples that want to have fun and be totally immersed in their day. I also love capturing people who are so unapologetically themselves.

Do you enjoy making the people around you feel at home, loved and important? Do you love hosting your friends and family? Is it important to you to be able to look back at your photos in 20 years time and relive your day? If so, we’ll totally get along.

What is your advice to couples getting married?

Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing or what the latest trend is. I feel like so many couples get hooked up on what they’re ‘supposed’ to do. You don’t ‘have’ to do anything. Before you start going on Pinterest and getting stuck in the doom scroll, look around you. Look at your home, the colour of things you always reach for, the things you love to do, the type of dates you both go on, incorporate these things into your day and you can’t go wrong. You’re both uniquely you and that’s the best part about it!
