Photographer Daniel Bergin is deeply invested in both film photography and the celebrations he captures and has an intuitive, present, and playful style. He uses a mix of digital and film formats, focusing on building connections and spending quality time with his couples. Based in NYC, Daniel Bergin primarily divides his time between shooting in Brooklyn and the Hudson Valley.

What would you like couples to know about you?

Hi, I'm Danny, a documentary and portrait photographer who specializes in couples and weddings. Constantly shooting all sorts of different people and celebrations with full creative freedom has kept my work fun, interesting, and fulfilling. So, I don't really see lines between my personal and professional work. I see them both as an opportunity to pursue my passion, be creative, and experience something meaningful.

️Where are you based?

NYC but I mostly split my time between shooting in Brooklyn and the Hudson Valley.

️Do you travel for weddings?

Yes, at least a couple of times a year.

️How would you describe your style?

This is tough because as a creative I don't want to put myself in a box! But if I were to sum it up I'd say mostly documentary with a little editorial portraiture.

️What inspires you?

Everything. My creative perspective is a reflection of all my influences, not just photography. Including New York street photography from the likes of Daniel Arnold, Jeff Mermelstein, Garry Winogrand, and many others. Images from Studio 54 and House of Yes. Editorial photography. Pre-flashed darkroom prints. 90’s movies. Grungy album covers. Music. Photos my parents took of each other. My mentors and dear friends Chellise and Mike. The whole NY creative scene. But most of all, my couples. I truly believe photography is a constant collaboration between photographer and subject. Meaning I can’t do what I do without the trust and willingness of so many incredible couples. I often feel that my favorite photos aren’t simply taken by me, they’re also given by you.

️How would you describe your working style?

Intuitive. Present. Playful.

️️Do you shoot digitally, on film or both?

I shoot a combination of digital and film. I think they both have their individual strengths, so I let my experience and intuition guide my use of both mediums.

️️What is a favourite product or service that you offer and why?

I include a complimentary pre-wedding portrait session with every single wedding. It's actually less of a shoot and more just quality time, since I believe the best way to make meaningful representative images of people is to spend time with them.

Where would you love to travel to for work?

Within the US I'd love to go to the West Coast more, it's always such a pleasure visiting. I'd also love to go back to New Orleans, Georgia, and Texas. Outside the US - Ireland, Italy, and Japan for sure.

Couples who value intentionality, creativity, vulnerability, trust, and collaboration. Couples who prioritize people and presence above all else.
