Tell us a little about yourselves!
We met and started dating almost six years ago in Los Angeles and met on the dating app Bumble. We fell in love hard and fast (as many gay women do) but didn’t live together until we got engaged — breaking stereotypes over here. We now live in a cute, small house on the east side of LA. We love the simple things like a nice walk or hike in the neighborhood, breakfast together on the weekends, traveling to a new place (Kyoto, Japan is a favorite), playing tennis, drinking chilled wine or martinis, and snuggling our two cats.
Lily grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and Hunter grew up in a small town in Texas. We are close with our families and wanted it to feel intimate and special — we love how cozy and warm Hunter’s parents’ home is and decided their backyard would be the perfect place for the ceremony. An outdoor venue was also very appealing to us but all the actual wedding venues we looked at were not our vibe at all. So we wanted to create the vibe and feeling with the family home and the blank slate of the small golf course, where we planned a tented reception.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?

How many guests did you have?
96 guests.
What was your budget?
$50k.
Tell us about your outfits.
Lily’s gown is from Bernadette. Lily wasn’t interested in traditional dress shopping so she found her dress and all of her accessories online. Lily ordered the gown straight from Bernadette’s bridal collection, and tried it on at home with Hunter. It was the one!
Hunter’s gown is from Varca Studio and was purchased at Loho Bride. Lily was the only one at the appointment with her. We couldn’t imagine picking out our wedding looks without each other and doing it together was so special and fun. We joke that Lily is Hunter’s stylist so she obviously HAD to help pick out the wedding dress! We also both did alterations and had veils made by Miss Tashina in LA, and going to those appointments together and doing all our try-ons was very fun.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
We wanted the wedding to feel like us — and to be a fancy party where we all dress up and have martinis, yet still have a very relaxed and intimate feel. Achieving this really came down to the setting, all the decor we picked out, and the vendors we hired.
To Lily the most important details were about the experience and vibe. We hired Dart Collective for our DJ and everyone still tells us how great the music was! The dance floor was one of the best parts of the night. Lily also wanted to make sure we had a great bar setup, which was complete with a martini hour, pink mezcal margaritas, Texas beer, and our favorite chilled wine Love You Bunches from Stolpman Vineyards.
To Hunter the most important details when planning were photography and videography. Hunter works in the television industry and is a nerd for film photo and video — so having the right people to capture all the emotions and feelings of the day was highest priority for her. We hired our videographer Kye from Forest Bound Films and our photographer Charlotte Macke Photography before planning anything else or even setting the date!
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
Spending as much time as possible with our loved ones was huge. We had four events planned throughout the weekend in order to make it more of a full weekend celebration. We had a country bar night, a pool and golf day, a welcome party, and the wedding ceremony/reception.
Another element that we loved about the wedding day was transporting everyone from the ceremony at the house to the tented martini hour and reception. After the ceremony everyone was given pet nat sparkling wine and got on golf carts — and rode on the golf carts to the tented reception down the street. It was such a fun and special experience and got the party started.
Any tips for couples getting married?
It’s what everyone says but it’s true — try to be present. And let go of perfection! Something will inevitably go wrong but who cares. You are with the love of your life and all your closest people. Those are the things that matter and all the details are just extra.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
Just special flowers for all of our vendors, we truly could not have done it without them. It was crazy to plan every last detail ourselves and they were all incredible in making our vision come to life.
Melissa from Truly Together Event Co. our coordinator helped so much the month and day of — she is the very best. At first we worried that finding gay-friendly vendors for a small town Texas wedding could be tough, but everyone was amazing and we would hire them all over again.
