Real Wedding | Caitlin + Abe

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We met 7 and a half years ago and were inseparable ever since. We live in Los Angeles with our Australian Shepherd, Ralphie.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

Carmel, CA has always been a special place for us. We would frequently spend romantic summer getaways lounging on the beach and cozy Christmas Eve nights bundled up with their dog having a drink at the Cypress Inn.

After Abe proposed, multiple locations were thrown around but after my mother got diagnosed with cancer, we knew the perfect place to celebrate our love as well as honor her. My Mom and Dad eloped in Carmel over thirty-four years ago and we knew it would be the perfect place for their wedding.

After my mother passed, we wanted to keep it as intimate and lovely as possible, with absolutely no stress or worry surrounding our big day. With just our immediate family in attendance, we got married in an idyllic cottage a couple blocks away from the ocean with the grounds of an English garden and the Eden roses in full bloom. The wedding was light and lovely filled with so much laughter and joy as well as sweet, sentimental touches, honoring my mother. Abe and I have always done things our own unique way and this wedding was no different, at the center of our relationship has always been love and family and their intimate Carmel wedding as a perfect reflection of who we are as a couple.

How many guests did you have?

15. Our day was captured by Michelle Scott.

Tell us about your outfits.

I wanted my dress to feel romantic, timeless, and sleek. I love Danielle Frankel ’s designs so when I started looking for dresses, I knew I would end up wearing one of her dresses. I wanted a fun and unique reception dress and I came across the designer Lurelly, I feel in love with the 'Cloud' silk dress and knew that was the perfect party dress.

Abe wore all Paul Smith, we wanted to keep his look timeless and chic.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

The most important aspect was to make our wedding feel like us as a couple. We are low key and very close to our families so having a beautiful outdoor ceremony and reception (including beautiful floral styling by Eothen) surrounded by just our immediate family felt so right for us as a couple. It was also important for us to enjoy the moment and not feel stressed so keeping the wedding intimate allowed us to do that.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

It was important for us to incorporate my Mom, who recently passed in our ceremony. We left an empty chair next to my Dad for my Mom during the ceremony, that felt like she was there in a way and felt like a way to honor her.

Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during the pandemic?

Keep it small! That was the best decision we made. It allowed us to not get caught up in the guest list or the seating. It allowed us to really be in the moment and celebrate with our family and be present with everyone there.
