Tell us a little about yourselves!

We met in Bondi Beach over piping hot ramen and sake, not an elegant first date choice but a very funny one. We now live together in Sydney, and got engaged in the Barossa Valley after a couple glasses of Rieslingfreak. We had a great time at our wedding and are having lots of fun being married!

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We knew we wanted to have our wedding at Poly before anything else. We wanted to have a fun, intimate dinner party with our friends and family, with excellent wine and good food as the focus. Poly is a restaurant we often visit, and it felt exciting and meaningful knowing we would go back and be able to reminisce! Choosing the ceremony spot was more challenging, but after exploring some options we landed on Golden Age Cinema, somewhere we’d been on an early date that felt intimate, elevated and light-hearted all at once.

How many guests did you have?

60.

Tell us about your outfits.

Sean - Custom P Johnson black tuxedo made from Loro Piana wool and P Johnson shirt. Crockett and Jones black loafers. Black bow tie and yellow wool socks from Drake’s.

Eleanor - By Malina dress and Neous shoes.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

We wanted to keep things as simple as possible, and to try to avoid feeling the burden of things that fell into ‘should do’ or ‘must have’ categories. We always made an effort to come back to the point of the event which was to get married to each other when things became overwhelming, which helped make some decisions like place cards, much easier.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

As mentioned, recreating the intimate dinner party feel was how we approached the whole event, creating a space for conversation between our friends and family and sharing our passion for good food and wine. The music was really important to us to set the ambience for this, and Sean curated the playlist for this perfectly!

Any tips for couples getting married?

Doing the first look together and taking photos before the ceremony was such a good decision for us. We both had lots of nerves that were immediately relieved once we saw each other, and we laughed all around Potts Point and Chinatown taking pictures together. By the time the ceremony came around, we were both so relaxed and able to enjoy and appreciate every detail. It was great to be able to then waft  straight into cocktail hour, without leaving the party for more photos.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Jackson Grant Weddings - we found Jackson on Instagram and immediately loved his style, reminding us of Gursky and Dave Kulesza. From the first conversation, it was an immediate yes. Jackson made us feel so comfortable and like ourselves both on the day and in the photos, and we had an absolute blast. So many of our guests thought he was our mate, the way he fitted in so naturally and unobtrusively. Cannot recommend him enough!

Our Celebrant at Somer of Love - our ceremony was both of our favourite part of the day, and Somerset was essential to this! She helped us figure out what kind of ceremony we wanted, explaining options we didn’t know existed, and made our moment feel so much like our own. She struck the perfect balance of laughs, ‘awws’ and moments of quiet reflection. We had so many guests raving about her to us!

Our florist at Blossem - Emily immediately saw our vision and ran with it in the most amazing way, delivering sculptural bouquets and stunning table arrangements that worked on the narrow tables that were sprawled with wine glasses and share plates. The wedding bouquet was constructed to replicate

Eleanor’s mum’s bouquet from her wedding in the 1990s, which was a special touch.

Caoimhe Downey - Caoimhe is the perfect person to have around on your wedding  morning, with her relaxed air and incredible skills. I was so so happy with my hair  and make up, and felt like the most elevated version of myself while still feeling like  me!

Poly - wonderful food, wonderful wine, spectacular service. Special thanks to  Solène for everything including leading the hunt to find the perfect gamay, and  Rory for running things on the night.

Golden Age Cinema - a delight to work with, so easy and fun.
