Tell us a little about yourselves!

We’re both 93 babies. We first met in grade 9 but didn’t begin dating until reconnecting in 2015 when Brett came into the bar I was working at. We moved in together to Vancouver from our hometowns Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge in 2019, got engaged in April of 2024 (04.24.24) and bought an apartment in Olympic Village shortly after. We just celebrated 10 years together at the end of last year and our final dating anniversary.

We love to travel, we actually just got back from our late honeymoon in Japan. We love to go out and try new restaurants, lounges and listening bars, but we also love sitting on our couch and doing nothing together or sneaking downstairs to the store to get a sweet treat. We love to hangout with our friends and family and especially our two cats Lenny and Yoko (who were featured on our stationary). We bond over art, fashion, shopping together, and our (yes Brett loves it too) obsession with Desperate Housewives and Bravo shows.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We didn’t want to make anyone travel so decided to keep it in the city. We wanted an upscale garden party with long table dinner location, which was why the contemporary lawn and arbour at UBC Botanical Garden were perfect. Especially when it down-poured for a quick 30 mins during dinner but being under the arbour saved us.

We also really wanted a different more unique vibe to the ceremony (ie. walking towards our guests instead of through an aisle, having just us two and Jessica up there etc.) and loved the amphitheater for those reasons as well as the minimalism and beauty the area already had which made it easy to go light on florals and decor for the ceremony.

How many guests did you have?

What was your budget?

Originally 60k! But we quickly learned that was about to increase because we absolutely could not give up the vision. We spent about 85–90k.

Tell us about your outfits.

I was obsessed with both my dresses and knew in my gut it wouldn’t take me long to choose one, but didn’t necessarily think I would pull the trigger on day 1 of shopping. I had my dress pinned on Pinterest all throughout our engagement and a little bit prior, so I knew it was something I loved to look at and when I tried it on, I knew it was the perfect choice. My second dress was fun, flirty and a bit edgy which allowed me to get wild on the dance floor while still feeling beautiful, snatched and bridal.

Brett’s first look was originally my idea to have a white jacket with black pants but Brett got on board quick and really slayed the vision. He wore his Lucchese boots with the suit and decided against a boutonniere or anything taking away from the suit and it was the perfect choice. He was adamant from the beginning he wanted a second look as well and since we’re both a little country deep down, he knew it had to have a cowboy hat. He changed into a velvet black Polo Ralph Lauren suit jacket, kept the same pants on and put the black cowboy hat on and it was the perfect combo.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

First of all that we’re able to exchange our vows publicly and cement our love for each other with all of our loved ones there to witness in one place, but secondly, that everyone including us, ate amazing food, drank great drinks and danced and partied to the best music in a beautiful location.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Having our best friend officiate the wedding was something that was very special to us from the beginning. Even prior to getting engaged we knew we wanted this. We legally got married by a legal BC officiant at our rehearsal dinner two days before our wedding because we wanted someone that we loved, has known us both throughout our relationship and prior, to be the one up there with us on the wedding day to speak to our love and conduct our vows etc.

Also, open bar, good food in a family style manner, specifically Italian since it’s one of our favorites.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Double your budget immediately lol.

But on a serious note, stay as present as possible, it’s true what they say that the day goes by so quick, and you truly don’t care about the linens, or anything when you’re finally there experiencing it and soaking it in.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Our planners, photographer Doxa Photography, florist and content creator and caterers were truly everything. They made the day what it was and made our vision come to life.
