Tell us a little about yourselves!

This is a letter I (Laura) wrote about meeting Alyssa in our wedding magazine invite: “What's good Alyssa”. That was the message. The first move. The icebreaker. And what a stupid line it was but guess what, I had some cute pics on my profile and Alyssa bit. We met up that night for ice cream.

We walked around the neighborhood and I was enamoured. She was wonderful and funny and beautiful and nervous. She was everything.

From then on, it was hard to be away from her. She would pack a bag and come stay overnight. Every night. She became my best friend. She started to meet the family and everyone immediately loved her because obviously they did. How could you not? One day, we planned a photoshoot. Alyssa cleaned her Jeep, we got dressed up and drove up the canyon. Sitting in the back of the jeep, camera set up, she told me to close my eyes. Girl pulled out a CAKE that said “Will you be my girlfriend?” We moved in together a month later.

Our closets merged, our calendars merged, and life felt more right than ever. Two years later, we took a trip out to Napa. Alyssa got on a knee and asked if I would marry her. A few months after that, at our favorite brewery, I brought out two beer cans and the label read “Will you be my wife?” Asked and answered, your honor.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We wanted to get married on the coast somewhere. I [Laura] grew up in California so it was close to my heart. And being near water gives us life. Living in Utah as a queer couple, we also knew we wanted to get married somewhere where marriage equality wasn’t up for debate, so California felt safe.

How many guests did you have?

We had 8 guests total. It was beautiful and intimate and felt perfect to have our people around us. Nikki Baker captured our day.

What was your budget?

$55,000.

Tell us about your outfits.

Alyssa got her suit custom made. She had been collecting notes that I had written her over the years and had them printed on the inside of her jacket. She also had our names custom printed onto her shoes. Alyssa also custom designed our wedding rings.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Our wedding guests were so important to us. We really wanted to have people with us who were chill, matched our vibe and who have always supported us and been on our team. Because we were so selective in who we chose to spend that day with us, it was truly magic.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

We got everyone in our wedding party matching sweat suits to wear the morning of. It was so fun to get coffee and do a morning beach walk with our closest friends and family. We also got tattooed the morning of our wedding, along with our whole wedding party. It was so fun to be able to have that memory and experience.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Make it your own. This is your party. Don’t let anyone tell you how to get married. Prioritize what is important to you and let the rest just be.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Sydney Fields from Tiny Tat Club is our best friend and tattoo artist! So talented.
