Real Wedding | Yeonsoo + Dong Sik

Tell us a little about yourselves!

In 2017, Dong Sik and I first met during a Korean church band in San Francisco, he played drums and I played bass! Knowing someone from the same background and culture was enough to spark our friendship. We began as a musical duo and it slowly burned into deeper feelings and that’s when we really decided to be badass partners for life!

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

We always talked about whether we were going to have our wedding happen in Korea or in San Francisco. However, after the pandemic started in 2020, we had to limit our travel and plan for our guest’s safety. Since both of our parents couldn’t travel to SF, we decided to have an intimate reception, so we weren't really looking for a big venue. Wayfare Tavern was perfect for that snd able to accommodate our party. The Tavern is located in the city where we spent our time together which means so much to us! But for the most part, we really loved their menus and beautiful interiors. We started our planning a little late at that time so having a restaurant as a vendor was less stressful from booking all the equipment rentals - and a dozen got checked off our to-do list straight away by booking a restaurant!

How many guests did you have?

We invited 45- 50 guests.

Tell us about your outfits.

My goal was to find something formal but not cumbersome, to save me from stepping over my dress. I wore a light white satin slip dress with beaded details in the straps from Aidan Mattox and I love how it had a low back cut to bring more charm. For earrings I wore Swarovski.

Dong Sik wanted more casual clothing and found himself a textured navy suit Zara and to go with he wore Dr. Marten’s black oxfords. Preparing our wedding wardrobe was one of the best in our wedding preparation.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

This was a time for our oath to each other in God and in front of people we love and support us. We truly wanted the guests to enjoy our celebration as much as we did! I didn’t spend too much time on the details but focussed on a few major things like flowers, photos, and overall mood.

Our first look was the most significant in terms of planning so we did it in our backyard. It was where we felt most comfortable and were us. We loved sharing an intimate time away from the others. That is all we really needed!

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

It was important that we could do our wedding our way!

Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during the pandemic?

I know a pandemic threw off many of our plans and it was unpredictable. However, in the end it was all about the two of us and how fortunate we are to have each other - especially in a time like this! We were ready to walk into the many wonders of love and we are sure it will be great!

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

I put the most focus into finding a good photographer, who could also shoot film. I reached out to Hannah Shea who was very friendly and carefully planed along our timeline, theme, and mood. I requested that our session would be something that I would look back to cherish from time to time. And she made it happen. We cannot express how thankful we are to have this amazing person as part of our wedding!

Our florist Dahee from Thousandfold is a close friend to us and she created a blissful scene for the tables and all the amazing arrangements. She definitely made our day extra special too!
