Tell us about yourselves!
We live in Brooklyn and got married in January 2023.
At the time of our wedding, Alex and I had been together for over a decade. Our wedding day, as it happened, ended up falling on the 11 year anniversary of the weekend that we first met. It wasn’t intentional, but we love how the universe conspired in such a way that it felt like a little wink saying, you’re doing it right!
We first met on a ski trip, indirectly introduced through mutual friends. We carpooled home, he showed up unexpectedly to my birthday party the next weekend, and as they say, the rest is history.
Why did you decide to get married where you did?
Alex is from Ohio, and I grew up in New York and Hong Kong. After our engagement, we both knew that neither NY or Ohio felt quite right for the type of celebration we wanted–it had been 10 years, after all!
Our love of the beach and the sun, in tandem with our first post-covid trip to Baja a few years prior, had made us turn to each other and ask “would it be crazy if we got married in Todos?”
It wasn’t so crazy after all. We had first gone to Todos after a year of lockdown and the combination of the turquoise water, the otherworldliness of the desert, and the pure heaven of a perfect mezcal cocktail made it easy for us to admit that this magical place was it.
How many guests did you have?
About 85 guests.
Tell us about your outfits!
Alex: I went with a custom fitted classic blue suit and white shirt that was formal enough for such a momentous occasion but without a tie to feel more casual and comfortable.
Morgane: From the very beginning, I always knew I wanted something simple and classic. I loved a square neck, so that helped narrow things down from the start. Finding a dress that didn’t make me look like I was drowning in it (think two toddlers stacked on top of each other in a trench coat) was important, so when I found the fitted flare fit of my Kyha dress I was so, so relieved and happy. As for shoes, I found the tallest heels I possibly could find without falling–every inch counts when you’re barely 5 feet. I paired a simple gold hoop pearl drop earrings with a vintage bracelet that had belonged to my grandmother and was given to me in the days leading up to the big day.
What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?
Once we decided on a destination wedding, we wanted to make sure the weekend felt like a vacation for everyone involved. It was most important for us to spend time with everyone and not feel rushed between events, so having everything at Hotel San Cristobal allowed for an ease, convenience, and casualness that is hard to overstate.
We also wanted those who had traveled from near–but mostly far–to breathe a sigh of relief once they got to the hotel and caught that first glimpse of the view. “Ok—we totally get it” was what we heard from a lot of guests as the weekend went on, which was one of the best gifts we could have received.
Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?
We wanted the whole weekend to feel like a big, cozy, casual hang out (where you get to dress up sporadically!)–so that was a big reason why we wanted to have a pool party the day after the wedding. It removed so much of the pressure to see everyone knowing that we had a full day to idle by the pool and eat tacos with them.
For that same reason, we also loved that at all hours of the day, you could find someone drinking by the pool, asleep with a book in hand, or family members and new friends chatting in the hot tub. It was a true blending of our favorite people and it was so much of what made the weekend so special for us.
Any tips for couples getting married?
For once in your life, you’re allowed to be a little selfish. We don’t mean to be monsters, of course, but everyone is going to have an opinion on the choices you’ve made–from the venue and scheduling to the food and the music. Try to tune those people out. Your weekend is about building an experience that is full of everything and everyone that brings you and your partner joy. That’s what matters most.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
We couldn’t have brought our dream wedding to life without our planner, Marissa, of Saltwater Weddings and Events. Working with Marissa was the single best wedding decision we ever made. Somehow, having an almost ninety person international destination wedding felt easy with her.
We would also be remiss if we didn’t shout from a mountaintop just how amazing our photographers were. Emily Klarer Photography and her husband, Casey, were with us for our entire three-day wedding weekend (welcome party, reception, pool party) and every photo they delivered is stunning, dripping in emotion, and captures the effortlessly, carefree cool of Baja. Emily and Casey had actually gotten married in Todos Santos (two?) years prior with Marissa as their wedding planner. It was Marissa who had seen my photography inspiration boards and had the idea to suggest Emily, who immediately said sign me up. We hopped on a short call and Alex and I were instantly in love and couldn’t wait to meet her. She and Casey brought a cornucopia of cameras (digital and film swoon) and immersed themselves completely amongst our nearest and dearest. They were also so, so cool, and everyone wanted to be their friend after the weekend’s conclusion.
