Real Wedding | Melati + Tom

Tell us a little about yourselves!

A modern-day romance in the technological age, Tom and I met on the dating app, Hinge, during the beginning of the pandemic in June 2020. After our first date at a wine bar, we both knew it was something special. “The day we met, Melati’s smile, energy and passion for life was contagious. I knew she was something special. Being in her presence is always so exciting. I wake up each morning excited for what’s in stall for the day, excited for the future and excited to grow old together. She is simply magical.” “Tom’s nickname is Goldern Boi, and this couldn’t be more true. He has the most brilliant smile, kind eyes, compassionate and empathetic above all else. He is hands down the nicest person you would ever meet. Something changed when Tom came into my life, I had never felt so loved, safe and secure before. We have so much energy and fun together, and I know this will continue till the end of our days.”

How many guests did you have?

70.

Tell us about your outfits.

I am a fashion designer and knew I didn’t want to do anything traditional. I researched for months and came to conclusion that a short dress was me. I picked my veil from Melbourne cult wedding label, Chosen by KYHA. I came across a dress on Net-A-Porter from UK brand, 16Arlington, it was perfect. Wearing a short dress, the shoes needed to be a statement and Italian brand, Rene Caovilla, had the most unique design. Paired back with my Jacquemus mini bag, gifted from Tom, my outfit was complete. Tom also a creative, didn’t want to do anything too traditional. Tom wanted me to help him find the right outfit, so we started shopping around Melbourne. Calibre had an amazing white tux in the window, Tom tried it on, and it was the one. His shirt was custom tailored instore at local label, Dyonsu. Levelling up to my designer shoes, Tom wore a classic black patent Christian Louboutin. To finish off the look, a black silk bow tie from Politix and his late Grandpa Leslie’s mother of pearl cuff links.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

We are both from creative backgrounds wanted everything to be unique, beautiful, and most importantly ‘us’. We had so many ideas and wanted full creative control to bring our vision to life. Capturing the day was also one of the most important things to us, and we were so lucky to find Lei Lei Clavey. Her work really spoke to us, romantic and dreamy yet edgy and unique, it was exactly our vibe.

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

We wanted to have our first look photoshoot at the National Gallery of Victoria. The gallery provided the perfect backdrop for our special moment.

The thread of art was carried through the whole wedding, with Tom creating the centre piece artwork for our ceremony. He also designed and hand painted all the signage and stationery for the wedding.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Do it your way! Things might not go exactly to plan, but that’s all part of the adventure. It will be the best day of your life!

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Sophie Brown played live at our wedding; she learnt all our favourite songs which created a romantic feel for the evening. It was so special to have the aisle song performed live. Blossom Club did the beautiful bridal bouquets and floral arrangement. The bold bright colour palette was the perfect aesthetic for our modern wedding.
