Real Wedding | Maria + Álvaro

Tell us a little about yourselves!

We got engaged while watching True Detective (first season, of course) laying in our Chester at London. I never planned to get married, and I started dreaming about it. At that time, we were planning to move to Rome, so Alvaro was looking for a house. Suddenly, I paused the tv and ask him: are we going married to Rome, though? He freezes. Turns out he was already looking for a ring. We decided not to talk about it any further and to go dinner next day. It was awkward, but it was fun!

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

The sea. Tarifa is my favourite place in the world since forever. My father is originally from nearby, the city of Algeciras. My husband was born there as a total coincidence. It is wild and chill, definitely a place where we could be ourselves.

How many guests did you have?

125!

Tell us about your outfits.

I never felt like a bride. It was simply not me. So I worked on a design to express myself along with the Victoria Imaz team. There are so many 'musts' around weddings, you have to break all of them and think from scratch what marriage means to you and what is is that you want to wear.

As for Alvaro, I went with him to try suits. In his case, the Lardini suit from Jofré Barcelona chose him!

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

We wanted to keep things simple and have fun after all, we were excited to be getting married!

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

Us, ha! My mother forgot our wedding rings and she had to find a replacement during the ceremony. We didn’t notice until the end. And we laughed a lot. There’s no element that was that important aside from us being there!

Any tips for couples getting married, particularly during the pandemic?

Improvise!

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Working with Ferrer + Mayor was top. The pictures are literally little moments that portrayed us as we are, and as we were that specific day. Also, we are very found of Alicia from Ferrer + Mayor Films work. We trusted her to do whatever she wanted for our wedding video, no rules. We can both go back to our feelings that day thanks to her sensitivity.
