Real Wedding | Madilyn & Colin

Tell us a little about yourselves!

Colin and I are two kids from New Jersey. We grew up about 45 minutes from each other, which makes going home for the holidays very easy. Colin moved to Los Angeles 13 years ago and I moved to LA 7 years ago. It took moving across the country to finally cross paths.

One night in June of 2019 I get a match on Hinge from Colin and without even knowing he was from New Jersey I felt like I knew him on a deeper level. We went on our first date a couple days later. During that date I told Colin I was flying home the next day to pick up my soon to be dog, Lacey. He obviously wasn’t my boyfriend yet but it felt like I scored the lottery, I got a boyfriend and a dog in the same week! Colin planned a second date for us when I got home with Lacey. The date was so inclusive of Lacey it was the cutest thing ever, I probably fell in love with him right there as we sat at Echo Park Lake.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

Walking up the driveway to Adamson House the feeling was almost instant. We are two kids from New Jersey and to be able to bring our families together to such a special location that not only is so beautiful but has a lot of history behind it was really exciting for us.

How many guests did you have?

115. Tom Irwin captured our day.

What was your budget?

We went over budget a bit. Our original budget was $80,000 but we knew we may exceed that, which we were comfortable with because we had help from our parents.

When booking the Adamson House you get the beautiful property and that is it - you need to bring everything else in which we knew but of course there were expenses we didn’t expect.

Tell us about your outfits.

I, wore the Vionne Gown by Fekih, made in Copenhagen, Denmark. I found my dress at maybe the 10th shop I went to in Laguna Beach, I was with my maid of honor Katie and one of my bridesmaids Hannah. When I tried on the Vionne Gown the feeling was pretty instant, just like the feeling we had when we walked into the Adamson House, I knew it was the one.

I went back and forth between getting a second dress but in the end I really loved the idea of staying in my gown the whole night, simply because this was the last time I was going to wear it and I wanted to stay in it as long as possible.

My husband, Colin, wore a classic black Ludlow suit from J.Crew. We decided to go no tie because we felt like it represented the casual beach vibes we were going for.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

Our main focus was for our guest to feel the love so much that they leave with so much kindness and love. Every little detail we decided on had our guest in mind and I think it made for a really amazing night - full of so many laughs and memories that will last a lifetime.

Any tips for couples getting married?

Don’t compare yourself to other couples and don’t allow people to have such an influence in your day. You are going to feel nervous, you are going to feel like you are disappointing people, you may even have the thought “should we just have eloped?” I know we sure did, but at the end of the day whatever you decide, is the right decision and will be so special.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

All of our vendors were amazing but our event planner Janna from Orange Blossom Special Events deserves such a praise. She truly brought our vision to life. I was so nervous the month leading up to our wedding but she truly made all my nerves go away. I would trust her and her team 1000 times over again.
