Real Wedding | Juani + Artia

Tell us a little about yourselves!

I’m Juani. I’m a Senior Content Producer, originally from Medellín, Colombia. I grew up between Colombia, the US, France and Peru. I speak three languages - English, French and Spanish. I love to travel and to connect deeply with those around me. I care more about what I’m wearing than the actual event most of the time and when I love, I love deeply.

Artia is an entrepreneur and investor - mainly focusing on tech and, more recently, climate initiatives. His family is originally from Iran and, while he was born in Canada, he grew up mainly in Los Angeles. He’s an avid traveler and the true definition of an adventurer. He loves the mountains, getting lost in nature and traveling without a certain agenda. Artia is laid back, caring and hates being called nice.

Why did you decide to get married where you did?

New York felt like a great meeting point as we had family flying in from Chicago, LA, Indiana and Colombia. It’s also a city we love and spend a lot of time in - a city full of energy! What better place to start our story!

How many guests did you have?

Eight. Kindred captured our day.

Tell us about your outfits.

Originally I wanted to have a custom dress made. Since we had our honeymoon before the wedding, it got a little stressful to coordinate from afar as we were out for a few months. So, I went with a Magda Butrym dress I had seen online and loved! I had never seen the dress in person and didn’t try the dress on until a week or two before our wedding. Everything kind of fell into place.

For Artias tuxedo, we spent about a month or so working alongside the Bode team. It’s a jacket we feel very connected to as we picked every detail ourselves.

What was the most important aspect for you, in terms of planning your wedding?

For both Artia and I it was important that our wedding felt intimate and relaxed. It was a day we both wanted to be able to enjoy with each other and our closest family. We enjoyed every minute of the day! It was full of love and happiness. Every detail was crafted with care and, looking back, we wouldn’t change a single thing!

Were there any elements that were important for you to incorporate?

I really wanted to feel my grandparents close to me as they passed a few years ago and were such a big part of my life. It was important to me that I had little bits and pieces of them with me.

It was also important for us that both of our families felt seen. With such a small wedding, we really wanted little hints of our culture and personalities to shine through! We featured only mocktails at our wedding and our menu reflected flavors from both of our cultures.

Any tips for couples getting married?

It’s not that serious! Try to enjoy it all and go into it with the mindset that it’s all going to work out.

Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?

Pampa: Our menu blended flavors from our cultures - Colombia and Iran. We wanted a menu that represented our new blended family. The girls at Pampa created a beautiful menu that represented our love beautifully! The food was excellent and it felt so unique to us.

Hattie Rickards: My engagement ring was truly a labor of love! It’s a ring inspired off of a ring that my grandfather used to wear - passed down to him by his mom. It features a Colombian emerald and a waterfall of diamonds. I feel so lucky that Artia let me take part in the design process. We left the reveal until the day of our wedding. It was so fun to get to see it for the first time then!
